With 3 layers of clear coat, you should be able to sand compound and polish with no issues!

Newer bikes too! My k1200rs split an in-tank fuel line and ran lean.. heated the exhaust so much the rear fender liner caught fire at a stop light. Someone in traffic had a water bottle and helped out. Just the liner melted.

The final outcome looks really sweet, Paul. I once put a hole in the wrong spot on a fender too. After holding a piece of brass underneath, the welder on top, and a little use of the flapper wheel it was like it never happened.

I'd restore it as much as needed to make it turn-key again. And likely keep it. but to resell it turn-key would be the best option. Otherwise, selling it as a project will see it go from garage to garage, and likely parted out. Somebody that didn't know what they were doing, likely with little mechanical aptitude tried to FIY it.

I usually try to sell my flip bikes as running riding bikes, sometimes complete, sometimes with a little work needed. But, of course, gotta watch out for the bottom line

A little blood, a lot of sweat, and probably a little cussing to make her ready to paint the town red! She is a beaut! I love the paint color you picked and you did one heck of a rattle can job you produced on her. A little spit and polish on the chrome was a nice finishing touch on her. Course chrome don't get ya home but a well stocked tool roll helps a long way with an old Shovel and Ironhead. You did some fine work. They both are keepers and I'd never part with either one.

20/20`s great, because I DON`T have 20/20 vision! BTW it IS a chopper, because it`s not stock, it`s stripped down & customized. Choppers weren`t called choppers because they were hardtails. The early choppers just happened to BE hardtails. Cutting off/removing all the big, heavy, unneeded junk from a stocker is why they were called chops. I think it looks great & it seems purposeful, so be happy with yourself about that. You probly won`t sell it anytime soon & so you`ll probly make more changes to it eventually, because no, they`re never really done! Sorry for your loss. My Mom stepped into eternity a few months ago at 97. We all gotta go sometime. 91 & made it thru his birthday? Pretty good in my book. Probly too much birthday cake, huh? What a way to go! Be good

Nothing to do with the video but you inspired me to go out and buy an ironhead. I bought a 1968 sportster that I'm going to hardtail. Selling all of the tins and going for 70's chopper. It's going to be tough getting used to right hand shift.

@@buttcrackcycles my uncle painted his sportster and it actually came out really nice. Recently he pulled all the tins and had them powder coated and he said he loves it and he will never rattle can again. I gotta say it came out really nice and he only paid $300. Just a thought for next time.

That thing looks great. I had a similar experience with a bike I got in a partial trade last year. I hated the bike for a long time and wanted to roll if off a cliff. I used up a lot of favors calling friends with trailers to come get me (and the bike) after multiple break downs... but now that I've got it running good and looking nice, I'm starting to love it. I've got more money into it than it's worth, but sometimes the bikes that make you work for, are the ones you get attached to.

Look into the "carburetor hop up kit" 35-0133 for the super e, it fans out the spray of fuel from the accel pump, gets rid of the bog that is naturally there. It's a shame the Stupid E requires about $100 in add ons and accessories to run right. I've grown to despise them.
