Fix it grammar works so well along side structure and style. Highly recommend doing them together! I can’t decide on TGATB level 4 la or IEW for my 4th grade daughter. Decisions are so hard! My son does all IEW and works great for him. I’ve learned so much too. That’s why I’m having a hard time deciding between the two curriculums.

That is a hard decision! And I do have fix it grammar if we start and the other way, alternating bju, doesn’t work. I just really really love bju grammar. Level 4 TGTB was not my favorite level. We used that for my oldest at that point. But I’m just now using IEW for the first time so I don’t know how they compare.

I also picked up the Evan moor 3rd grade and the 4th grade financial literacy books to start with my 4th grader. I thought it best to start with the basics and build their skills. Thx for the video.

We chose for my daughter’s 6th grade year, last year, to only do BJU’s grammar as well. She did a separate writing component with a different curriculum. It worked out well. I would definitely be interested in a video on what books your daughter has read. We also really enjoyed the book Bruchko. Enjoy your year!

"Doing what is expected of me cheerfully, immediately and thoroughly?" That seems like a really high expectation for little humans with not fully formed brains yet. I would venture to say that most adults don't *always* do everything cheerfully, immediately and thoroughly, so why hold children to such high standards? Is that really in the bible? That little snippet really made me pause, but great video with a lot of great resources!
@Honeyatthehive
@Honeyatthehive Ай бұрын
That’s a great question. The Bible does say for children to obey their parents and to do everything as if doing it for the Lord. Does that mean I require perfect obedience to that particular definition across the board for all my children? No. I do expect more from my older ones than I do the younger ones but that doesn’t mean I change the standard or definition. I also tell all my children that lying is a sin. Does that mean I don’t think l my 3 year old will ever lie? No I expect he will but I don’t change that standard to match what he has yet to learn and understand. I instead give grace while trying to teach and instill truth. Teaching the standard doesn’t mean I hold all my children perfectly to it and don’t give grace it just means that’s the goal. In like manner, 1 Peter 1:15-16 to be holy in all our conduct bc it is written “be holy for I am holy”. Could I ever meet that standard of holiness? No! But that’s the goal and I’m constantly trying to conform to be more like Christ. I hope all that makes sense.

Man, you spoke to me with the "cramming too much in." I was thinking about it while you were talking about it and I think I've scheduled too much. It's hard because as you said, there are so many great resources, but my kids are so young (1st, 2nd, 3rd) that it's more important that they have time to be kids! Thank you so much for sharing! I also really like the curriculum you chose!

I’m so glad!!! It’s easy to get in that mode of wanting to do all the things for sure. One of the things I just started doing this year was sitting down and picking just a couple areas for each kid I want them to grow in and focus on those while obviously getting their core subjects in. But it helps to keep my mind set on the things that are important for that particular child and not trying to do all the things ❤️

Thank you for sharing! I am curious as to what your husband does for a living? As a homeschool family, we would like to travel in an RV for awhile to see the states but I have to finish nursing school first. My husband has been looking for a career to enter into that he could work remotely so that's why we ask. Thanks in advance for sharing :)

I was looking for a reading curriculum for the last 18!weeks of first grade. My daughter started her 1st grade in K. I don’t want her to be so far ahead that she’s starting 2nd grade in November. I was thankful to find Generations God’s Big Story Level 1. She can read that along with library choices.

Thanks for the flip-through. I'm wondering how long (#days) it seems like it would take to go through this lap book? Is it scheduled out?
@Honeyatthehive
@Honeyatthehive Ай бұрын
So it is laid out as if you would do it over the course of 23 school days. There is a “getting started day”, 21 lessons, and then a final day to put the finishing touches on the lap book. It seems very doable in that time frame and will be what we aim for.

My oldest just finished 6th grade, 12 years old, and we have that BJU Bible curriculum and I wasn't comfortable discussing it this year. I suggest pre-reading it and deciding if your child is ready for it or not. There's some mature and heavy topics in there. I'll wait till next year in 7th or in 8th grade.
