Agree with Mr. Cunningham and Wooster regarding the pre-eminent importance of school security.

Mr Woosters point about CTE equipment is a good one...helps to make the case for a full-time position seeking corporate partnerships...may offset the cost of equipment replacement.

Also, appreciate Mrs. Goetz and her support of CTE and the plan for the soft rollout of new programs. Love this focus and the opportunity CTE provides for IWCS children.

I appreciate Mrs. Tynes highlighting deficits in teacher education. Profoundly troubling and affects the course of individual children, the class room, the school and the entire school system. Unfair to the young teacher to send them into the classroom unprepared...may be a key factor in lack of retention and recruitment. Our teachers must be prepared for success.

IWCS should create a very specific MOU of the county-wide approach to discipline. This should be specific, but also allow for individual solutions. This form should require a mandatory signature of parents showing their agreement with the process. The forms should be signed at the beginning of each year. Short and sweet.

Yes to Instructional Assistants!

The job before the schools is overwhelming because we're asking schools to work outside of their mandate. Schools exist to teach. Schools should not be held hostage by ineffective, toxic parenting. Nor should they take on mental health problems and counseling. Has no place in schools. We can recognize issues, isolate problems and get outside help to support child and intervene for families. Get them professional help. Do not hold the majority population captive to the profound issues of a single child or family. Outside support can be used to thoughtfully and empathetically address emotional needs. We've fought for parental rights that also demands parental responsibility!

With a clear understanding of discipline, parental responsibility and swift action for both the offending child and the student population...we dont need additional positions. Administration should immediately isolate the offender and bring parents immediately to the table...if parents refuse... the child does not come back to the classroom. Discipline and the willingness to apply with the intent to form character is a necessity. Discipline problems manifest and compound when rules are applied weakly and arbitrarily. Admin needs to have a unified approach and training. No need for Dean of Students.

Regarding the LCSW position...Im not sure where this ends. I think we need a profound and impactful change to Special Ed. I am not a believer in mainstreaming. I believe there is a need for social interaction between all students, but majnstreaming does present a host of problems in the classroom. We're asking single teachers to meet too many varied needs in too few hours with too many students. Impossible to provide challenging environments for all students. The diagnostician making uniform caring decisions for families, teachers and the school population as a whole may be THE most important position, particularly if applied to a complete overhaul of how we do Special Ed. Big Picture.

Nix the practice fields across the road with tunnel. That tunnel could be dangerous in the evening. Really concerned about the big dream spending being bandied about.

Background on the band room...there was a time when the band program was supported and encouraged...the numbers had blossomed. That room was at capacity and a danger. The truth is band programs are expensive and they have done just enough to keep numbers low and undermine what was once a coheisve program from elementary to middle to high school. Music education and strong band/orchestra programs are a huge benefit to the student body and the community. Also enhance math, Art, American history and world history programs. Want higher scores for students a Ross the Board and higher property values...bolster your band program! Encourage a strong booster club that will fund raise and help organize. Have discussions about funding instruments/lease programs...the school system should not have to pick up the tab.
