This is true! - but no-one seriously uses any other but the main one. This may change with the development of commercial digitally driven quad based systems (inc traps) but my guess is that the case majority of users and analyses will stick to using the main stability region.

Hello! I know this isn’t related, but could you please provide any suggestions about what may be causing Curtain Plate Voltage fluctuations(Expec Triple Quadropole MS) After a certain capillary voltage, it starts fluctuating and goes to standby mode. Could you please provide a beginner-friendly explanation of ESI as well? Thanks!!!🫢

I slightly disagree with the point about vacuum requirements. Yes, all mass spectrometers need high vacuum, but compared to other analyzers (say TOFs or ICRs) vacuum requirements for quadrupoles are much less stringent.

@@autovectis Yeah I mean on the axis labels. I currently have the axis title as absorbance (%), and then the axis labels are from 1-100. Is there any way to have the axis labels display 1%-100%?

@@Miguel-sh1nd Well - I don't actually write SciDAVis - I'm just a user. But ... I don't think you can easily add units onto the numbers on a graph axis in there. However, why would you want to do this? It would be quite unusual. The normal (correct) way to do this is to put bare numbers on the axis and deal with the units in the axis title. If you really need it, and you have no huge number to do, I would export the graph as an svg file and then edit the axis numbers in Inkscape.

Very nice explanation of tandem MS. Finally an explanation that gives the topic proper covering, the half-assed explanations we received in a MS course I took gave minimal context. The explanations in this video on the other hand were at lot easier to follow. What tandem MS does is adding a second ionisation step, so this opens up for combining an initial soft ionisation like electrospray with minimal fragmentation, with a more energetic second ionisation that produce fragments that can be traced back to the parent molecules. So we get both the benefits of soft ionisation with well defined peaks from mostly intact molecules as well as an oppourtunity to extract more structural information that can be read from the fragments that comes with more energetic ionisation.

Thanks for the comment! 😁 And, your are right, some tandem MS methods are also identical or almost identical to types of ionisation - like EID is using the same effect as electron ionisation and UVPD is using the same effect as photo-ionisation. But, the most common type of tandem MS, collisionally induced dissociation, isn't directly related to a type of ionisation - it and infrared dissociation are really just methods of heating molecules up until some bonds break. There are even some combination methods where you first heat ions up a bit (using collisions or lasers) before you hit them with another fragmentation technique. Poor ions - but tell me everything you know!

The spectrum in TOF question is not Cocaine? I have done the calculation and I suppose it should be cocaine.

You are correct - this video was originally written as an HTML5 interactive presentation, so the radio button highlighting was added when it was converted to a video. I imagine it's just highlighted the first radio button.
