I might be facing that surgery soon as my partial macular hole is causing a bump underneath it. I am terrified because I have no vision already in my left eye due to either retinitis pigmentosa or uveitis. I only have one eye and if that goes I will be blind. I’m 67 and live alone. I’m terrified !!!😢

I had a vitrectomy abroad and neither me or my fellow patients had to posture much. I postured for 3 x 2 hours the first day then 1 x 2 hours the next day then I was done. Posturing for weeks doesn’t seem common practice here

Good heavens, I realize this was years ago but I am hoping that this is not what I will have to go through. I just learned of the hole and won't see the specialist until next week but my goodness I'm hoping procedures have gotten more advanced. You are great to share this with us.

THIS GAS BUBBLE BS IS FROM HELL! MOST OF THESE DOCTORS ARE LYING TO YOU ABOUT SO MUCH...THE 2 DROPS THEY GIVE AFTER SURGERY BOTH CAUSE BLINDNESS AND CATARACTS AND A HOST OF OTHER CONDITIONS THAT WILL CAUSE YOU TO HAVE A 2ND SURGERY...DO YOUR RESEARCH!

I am preparing for my second macular hole surgery in the other eye. First time before surgery I was told to walk around the house with a napkin under my chin and look down. If there is something I think I will want put that item on a coffee table or chair or floor where I can see it. This includes small appliances you might use for heating food. In the frig...put items on the bottom shelf or place them up front in the freezer door for easy access. Put two tennis balls in a sock and sew it to the back of your sleep garment so you don't roll over on your back. You will not sleep thru the night, naps are great. Nose-to-the-toes is what my doc said. Only 10 min of each hour can be head up for eye drops. Use a cane that you can rest your forehead on while walking about so you don't raise your head. I did the whole process living alone. For women chest pain can be the hardest part. Roll a towel and place it between your breast or a long narrow pillow for when you are resting your chest against the positioning supports.

Oh my goodness, I know you did this video 4 years ago but you can’t imagine how comforting it was to hear you speak and prepare me for the number of days I needed to spend in the torture chair. I made it to the other side and I am recovering now with my gas bubble preventing me from seeing for the next 2-4 weeks. But I am optimistic and truly appreciate your video which helped me tremendously ❤️

Thanks so much for making this video. No one is talking about how to get through the recovery period. You’re very helpful. Fortunately you can now get better recovery equipment. I’ll have a set of a forward leaning supportive chair, the tabletop unit and a nice set of cushions for sleeping facedown on the bed.

Wow! You're lucky! I had to hold an odd angle on two axes for 55 minutes of every hour MINIMUM. 24/7 for two weeks, and nothing like that nice padded device - I just had to commit the posture to muscle memory. After the first two weeks another two with slightly more leeway on time in position. I was so sedentary (and lying on only one side) that I had a diverticulitis flareup half way through. AND, I gained weight! You are so right about heightened hearing acuity! I heard noises that were MINISCULE! BUT...it was worth every extremely boring minute to have sight restored in the eye! You just have to grit your teeth and plow through the agonizing boredom.

@Luis V It wasn't for my surgery, but I don't know if this applies with all surgeons, so best to check. The surgeon I had never explains 'anything' so I will never know the reason and won't be returning. Do you have a vitrectomy in your future? Hope it goes well for you. Edited to add...if it wasn't for KZfaq I wouldn't have had a clue.
@AW-pz3qc
@AW-pz3qc 3 жыл бұрын
@Luis V Can I suggest one thing...make 'sure' you have a method of contact between you and the surgeon, just in case you need to communicate during the surgery. You won't be able to speak (move your eyes/face), can't move your hands etc and I needed to talk to the surgeon urgently with no prior arrangement made, however I'm sure he realised I was trying and he just ignored me. Thankfully the surgery and recovery was OK, but I'm now looking for another surgeon to remove the cataract. Mine was a Macular Tear. Will be thinking of you.

Thank you very much for your video. Tuesday, I learned I'll be having surgery on Monday, Nov. 30. Everything went so fast that I didn't have any time to process what was going on. In a few, I'm going to get the vitrectomy chair. I was looking for some tips, testimonies, or something from those who had this surgery before, and I found yours, which I find great! This experience, I'm thinking, is going to be somehow challenging since I'm the caregiver of my 93 years old and in Covid-19 time. I think I'll be writing some of my thoughts in my journal. Oki doki, bye-bye.

I’m due to have a vitrectomy on Tuesday 31st March in the middle of the Coronavirus lockdown! No friends or family visiting, my husband will be taking everything on! Your video has been very useful. Luckily I got hold of a vitrectomy chair before lockdown, but I’m obviously limited as to getting much else together, but I’ll spend the weekend preparing as much as I can! Like you I play golf and exercise (though not since my eye problem occurred) and look forward to the summer when I hope normal life will resume! Thanks for posting.

I've been told this morning that I need to have this surgery within the next two months, and they'll remove a cataract in the same eye too while they're at it. It's a lot to take in! Hope two years on that your vision has improved and you're pain-free. ❤️
