Really love that this is Brenda Song from our childhoods. Thought she was so funny in Suite Life but of course her character is brainless. This role is almost symbolic as we have another princess going from spoiled though oppressed to ambitious and cunning. And Brenda does the tones so well! Can’t wait for her and everyone else in season 2- fingers crossed! 🤞🏼

I think Akemi's heart is darker that Mizu's. She suffered great, but Mizu suffered much, much more. It's just Akemi looks like a beautiful princess, and Mizu like a warrior. But they are both young women... just, Akemi is ambitious, whereas Mizu is desperate. No one ever told her she had any right to aspire to greatness.

I really appreciate how Fowler has this nuanced and subtle admiration for Japan's culture, and an acknowledgement of the unfair nature of imperialist practice and development of war from Europe. He's so much more than "I'll civilize you backwards savages" and is so self aware of the evil he's doing. Refreshing not to see it veiled under some delusions of virtue.

He literally reminds me of me of,a HUMAN,version,of LORD SHEN,and just one of the BEST way,to exemplify that,is the episode where he,stormed that fortress,AND moed down all those guards,in the process,basically he,AND,shen give a whole NEW,meaning to the saying,never bring a KNFE,to a GUN fight.

Yeeeeah, I never quite understood this part. Fowler was shown to be rather indifferent towards acts of violence, even giddy at some points, yet he starts quaking in his boots when facing down Mizu? The writer's decision, but it's still a bit odd.

@@DBWave94it seems to him that he's more afraid of the flames he doesn't have anything to put them out with its something he can't control just like the flames he saw when he was younger. Also he seems to be probably getting flashbacks from his youth by seeing them

With his sister, that was just survival, and all that stuff was when he was in control. And Mizu, she is a beast that just barged in, and sets something in motion neither of them can stop. And here, she's just standing there, glaring daggers into him, not at all caring about the fire growing around them, only killing him.

He's used to being in control- he's dedicated his life to being in control. And yet, here is a fucking Terminator who he can't control, who just can't seem to die, and who just set fire to the room they were both standing in just to stop him from getting away and get a better chance to sink a blade into him- and after all that, still keeps coming after him. Plus, he's an Irishman who seems to believe in God; it stands to reason he might believe in demons, too. With all the talk of Mizu being a demon, maybe in that moment it seemed to him like it could be true. On top of all that, it was really only a moment of fear... It's not as if he shit himself and started bawling. He still put up a good fight afterwards.

2:59 Is some really great characterization. He's a scumbag, but he's aware of it. He isn't relishing in racial superiority or anything like that, but just being realistic. He knows how other people will look at him and is so unbothered by it.
