Thank you so much for making this video. If you had a summer camp for adults where you teach rhythm I would sign up because the movement part made me so happy!! I’m learning the violin whilst retired so I have plenty of time to watch videos. So far this one is the best for my specific problem: lack of rhythm. Cheers!!😊

I heard it said from an interview with a Hurling Player (his name escapes me at the moment) explaining that his father taught him that the most Irish things you can do is Speak Irish and play hurling. Though I live in America, My Grandfather's last name was Cochran. I've played Hurling competitively for 2 years and play casually now, working on the Irish language for about a year, and am beginning the beginner levels of the Bodhran.

When music plays people around me count 1-4 or say 5-6-7-8. I cannot figure out how they manage to do this. I keep listening, but simply don’t hear what they are counting on. When you went coffee coffee coffee I can go along when you clap, but how do you know when to clap if you don’t see the metronome?

Your beginner videos are just what I needed!! I am helping some folks learn a sea shanty this weekend and I wanted to play bodhran along with it, but my playing is very rudimentary so needed a quick crash course. I've been playing dumbek for many years so I picked up bodhran pretty technique quickly (up/down is like dum/tek), althogh the "grooves" are different, of course. Can't wait to learn more! Is that a tombak/zarb I see behind you?

The bodhran is such a versatile instrument! Withs its humble origins and the sad story of its peoples it carries the heartbeat of a thousand generations. Little by little it is making its way into the percussion of the world and it will have a bigger impact thanks to people like Ruari who are becoming apostles of the beat of the ages.

Hi, this is great content, do you have a list of words that you use to represent different divisions in English? That would be quite helpful actually.
