I met this great man at SMT in Perth in the 70's and DTV at that time . He is a far greater human being than a driver and he is a fantastic driver. Most people talk about Colin but Jimmy is far superior, he fully engages his brain when driving which gave him a very good end result and he is a very polite Gentleman too. Id love to meet him again to chat about the old days.

I owned an Alfa boxer-engined Raffo Tipo 12, which was a real laugh - it looked, to be blunt, bloody awful and very amateurish, but the chassis was fantastic and it was great fun harassing Porsche 911 drivers down twisty roads. The Belva was a missed opportunity for me - I was seriously looking to buy a kit when John Raffo (who is no longer with us, sadly) decided to retire back to Italy.

I read somewhere that the Venom moulds were taken in a mill that still stands in Denton, Manchester and also recall it's picture in the 1986 Which Kit? Guide as looking very much like a genuine but waxy Countach sat inside a dusty workshop...possibly being 'the' hired Countach after having a mould taken, rather than a built replica. The guide may still be in a box in my loft so will try and find it for another look! There was a video on here a couple of years ago in which someone was trying to fundraise to produce a documentary to tell the full story but I cannot find it unfortunately, it would be a fascinating if it ever came to fruition. Incidentally there is a good documentary on the Hagarty KZfaq channel about the Cannonball Run Countach that's worth a watch!
@enwins
@enwins Ай бұрын
@@islaws4589 Thanks for that. You are right. A Countach was hired for a weekend and moulds taken in an old mill. The hire car returned with plasticine still stuck to it. I met one of the characters involved around 20 years ago and it is quite a story. The full story varies depending who you talk to. Especially as people fell out with each other so the full, true story may never be told because there is so much dispute about who did what.

I remember seeing the MCA at what I believe was the first national kit car show, this being at the Lincolnshire Showground, the next year it moved to Newark. Anyway it was an impressive well thought out vehicle, far better quality than many offerings at the time, and hence a bit above the bargain basement price levels of the likes of Dutton. Great shame it didn't achieve the success it rightly deserved..
