perfect. Do you use 2 de-essers? One for the mid-high range and one for the high ?
@realisticproductionsLLC
@realisticproductionsLLC 3 күн бұрын
I do most of the time. Like one for the “Chh” & “Shhh” area and another for the “T” & “S” areas. I like to do manual clip gain as well. It lets me do a lot more with the EQ later on that way. I know I have a video somewhere on KZfaq about using the two Dessers and another one somewhere on the clip gain technique. Been doing KZfaq for too many years & I don’t always know where all the videos are.😅

is it best to make a custom preset with custom preamp/comp/eq to your voice to avoid having to de-ess in the first place?
@realisticproductionsLLC
@realisticproductionsLLC 4 күн бұрын
Well, it’s better to get a good signal going in and good mic placement to try to avoid it. I also do another technique where I reduce the clip gain on those sibilant areas. I know I have a video on KZfaq somewhere about that lol. But a De-Esser can be a good safety net, so it’s good to understand how they work.

Every situation & person is different. But I would start by neogiating an equal share. So if two people are involved 50/50. 3 people 33/33/33. 4 people 25/25/25/25. etc. That doesn't work in every scenario, but it's at least a starting point that makes sense.

Do you know are there any other interface options that can monitor autotune in realtime? I really like Apollo but it’s killing me on playback distortion with windows
@realisticproductionsLLC
@realisticproductionsLLC Ай бұрын
What type of distortion are you hearing during playback? Is it the whole session that sounds messed up or just that indvidual track? The reason why I ask, is because if it's the whole session I may have a hack for it. It's a weird one but it works lol. When the whole session distorts, go the "Playback Engine" change the buffer size hit "ok" & then change the buffer size back. For some reason that works lol. Also, if you're dealing with problems on indvidual tracks, have you changed your session to "Low Latency Monitoring"
@fanessmusic3841
@fanessmusic3841 Ай бұрын
@@realisticproductionsLLC The whole session or any playback, if I go into say KZfaq and play anything it crackles and pops or even sound test in the windows settings, your advice is definitely something I could try in session, once I noticed the issue I tried all the optimization settings uad recommendeds, changing bio’s settings, buffer size, my drivers are up to date, I just purchased the Apollo twin x usb earlier this week

I have logic pro, but it's been quite a while since I've had to use it. I don't think I use it enough anymore to be confident to make a video on how to use it right now though lol. But my TT patchbay (though not yet connected) uses DB25 cables... No soldering.
@realisticproductionsLLC
@realisticproductionsLLC Ай бұрын
Yeah, that's true some of them do have the D-Sub connection. But there's a lot of them that do require soldering. I've had to solder enough of them myself. Either way though, I think aside from that technical point, I feel the info was still pretty useful throughout the video. Especially since a TT patch bay was only mentioned in brief passing as extra information & the focus of the video was a 1/4" patch bay & how to set one up.

Hi bruh , if you were to try get some analog goodness in the box mixing. Would you go for an external analog mixer with budget mic pres and upgrade those later or just get a budget bud compressor hardware?
@realisticproductionsLLC
@realisticproductionsLLC 2 ай бұрын
If you're trying to get the analog sound on the overall mix, I would go for an analog bus compressor or analog mix summer (like the Neve Orbit.) Now if you're looking for that sound on your recordings like vocals & such, your best bet is to grab something that will process it before it ever hits your DAW. I wouldn't do an external mixer, but rather just a sold mic pre. You'll get more bang for your buck when it comes to quality. The Warm Audio 273 Neve clone is something I've used for years. It's only two channels; however, since it's just dedicated to being a pre-amp & EQ for two channels & nothing more, it does those two things really well.

I do; however, my mains are the Focal Twins that are 3-way monitors with some pretty powerful low-end. Low end is something you feel more than you hear, so it does not take much volume for the bass to travel to the neighbors connecting apartment.

If I have recorded an entire album on 24bit will it matter if I render an entire mix/master to 16bit for cd? Will it ruin the quality?
@realisticproductionsLLC
@realisticproductionsLLC 2 ай бұрын
Well, technically just reducing to 16 bit is going to reduce the quality. But if your session was in 24 bit and you reduced it to 16 bit, rather than starting your session in 16 bit and keeping it at 16 bit the whole time, won’t ruin the quality. Actually it may help the quality, because you’ll get better quality recordings. I always suggest to actually record at 32 bit float, because that extra 8 bit of headroom can really help you avoid clipping digitally while you’re recording. Same with sample rendering at 32 bit. That headroom gives a lot of safety net. So reducing later down to 16 bit will just reduce the bit quality and lower the headroom, but all of the clarity that you were able to capture during the recording process at 32 bit, will still appear in that 16 bit copy.
