I’m old enough to remember the 1970s series Sailor, based around the Ark Royal. It may be several decades old but still great to watch.

The Buccaneer took some of the roles planned for TSR2. If that plane could stay in service to the 1990s, TSR2 may have lasted to 21st century.

Not so fun fact the original comets had square windows but the broke do to the stresses from pressurization so all of them had to be refitted with the now standard round window
@AllanAkers23 күн бұрын
I was expecting to see square windows when I boarded this aircraft. Wonder how many actually still exist.

We shouldn’t have decommissioned ark royal and Hermes so quickly
@nphil9399228 күн бұрын
Both carriers were at the end of their lives, Ark royal never received a major overhaul in the 1970's. It would have been far better for the RN to have kept Eagle instead. Hermes was sold to india in 1986 and served until 2017, a total of 58 years.

That's why our Phantoms had longer nose leg oleo's on the ARK Royal, they were not removed when they left the carrier and flew with us at RAF Leuchars in the early 80's until the next major servicing when the oleo's were replaced with standard ones.
