Nice, I hadn't realized the water would get that high, 10/10. I wish I had one to fill with some native Lotus flowers or native-fen carnivorous-plants that consume bugs. (fen being a non-stagnant bog habitat, fen are what North America has & stagnant bogs are in Europe.)

Thank you! It's amazing how much the water can rise and create a beautiful habitat. A pond filled with native lotus flowers or fen carnivorous plants sounds incredible. Native lotus flowers would definitely add a vibrant touch, and carnivorous plants like pitcher plants and sundews could help control the bug population naturally. Fens are fascinating ecosystems. They offer a unique environment that's perfect for native plants and wildlife.

We didn't need to seal the pond base since it has a natural sand and gravel bottom and is spring-fed. The sand and gravel help with water retention, and the spring provides a consistent water supply to keep it full. If you're considering building a pond, it's worth looking into the natural conditions of your site. Thanks for your interest!

What is the max depth of the pond? Looks like you don't have to worry about it not holding water with your water table. My water table is a lot lower. I basically catch surface runoff. I have lots of clay which is "ideal" for a pond, but getting it to seal isn't a given. Maybe over time the ponds I've created will hold water better. Recently, I found about a one inch hole where the water was draining in one - it wasn't there when I originally dug the pond, the water created it. Controlling water is very complex, and interesting/fun. Have a great day, enjoyed the video.

Hi @just4mewife, The max depth of our pond is about 12 feet. We're fortunate to have a high water table and a natural spring that feeds into it, which helps keep it filled. I can see how relying on surface runoff would make things more challenging, especially with a lower water table. Having lots of clay should definitely help with sealing, but I understand it's not always straightforward. Sometimes it just takes time for the pond to fully settle and seal itself. It's interesting how water can change the landscape over time, like creating that hole you found. Pond maintenance can be complex, but it’s also rewarding to see it evolve and support local wildlife. Thanks for watching the video, and I'm glad you enjoyed it! Have a great day!

Your wetland progress is looking nice. One thing I wonder about is if you're going to experience any stagnant-water with anaerobic-conditions. Like those Dubai islands they found out that the water isn't moving around well enough so things began to stink. Another interesting thing I'd like to test myself is using clean wood-chips with no-bark as a water filter. Wood-mulch water-filtration was experimented with on large farms but they have a limited lifespan but in a pond situation it'd be restored into a fern(bog) were I could have native carnivorous-plants or something living on all of the digested carbon(wood chips). That song is interesting, it reminds me of AI-created songs as they're very advanced already.

Hi @SlackerU, Thanks for the feedback! We're keeping a close eye on the water movement to prevent any issues with stagnant conditions. With our design, we’re hoping the natural spring and the pond's shape will help maintain a good flow and avoid anaerobic spots. But it's definitely something we’ll monitor closely, as you mentioned with the Dubai islands example. Your idea about using clean wood chips as a water filter is intriguing! It’s interesting to think about how it might work in a pond environment, especially with the potential for native carnivorous plants to thrive on the organic matter. I’d love to hear more about your experiments with wood mulch and how they turn out. Glad you liked the song! AI and music technology have indeed come a long way, and it’s fascinating to see how these advancements continue to evolve. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I wish I knew all the best-management-practices. You kinda need a water-pump & over 400ft of water-discharge-hose to filter that sediment-water with a silt-fence before letting it enter a different part of your waterways. Then you could really dig. You might test the TDS if you have a meter, I own a EC-meter b/c I was mixing 100 gallons of fertilizer for my garden. My tap water is 100 TDS, plants start to suffer at anything over 900 TDS unless you supply additional root-oxygen & sunlight, I feed 400-600 TDS worth of fertilizer.

How is it in soft ground do you get stuck a lot
@GrowingABetterTomorrow
@GrowingABetterTomorrow 6 күн бұрын
Hi @js4455dl! Thanks for your question. Fortunately, Buzz, the Kubota mower, seldom gets stuck on soft ground. Its design and traction handle softer terrain quite well. As long as I'm mindful of particularly wet areas and avoid overly saturated spots, it performs reliably even when the ground is soft. I’ve found that taking it slow and steady helps, especially when maneuvering through trickier patches, and I try to avoid making sharp turns in muddy areas. It’s also helpful to plan mowing sessions when the ground isn’t too wet after a heavy rain. Overall, Buzz is a powerful and reliable mower that does a great job even in softer conditions.

The dealer might ought to switch out their inventory with the black Lynch pins which are stiff enough to smash a finger. I have never been a fan of the Zero-turns. I did have the adjustable spring-seat on the Kubota zero-turn I used, I prefer my BX & to just alter the yard to meet the requirements of a BX's turn radius. My caster is bent & stuck, no wear on the wheel so I don't bother it on a 6yo machine.

Amazing setup. IDK how many of those structures have bathrooms but you might be missing a modern-sized sewage-disposal area. Or that in my State the rules changed in 2012 where even my small 3 bedrooms & 2 bath uses 7k square feet of sewage-disposal area for our home's OSSF, I think I am allowed to shrink mine to slightly over 5k square feet for a system sized for 200GPD. The setback spacing from standing-water on my system is 50ft & I think 10ft for edibles that have a skin that doesn't get eaten like citrus or nuts.

So you're 107 licensed for drones, nice. I fly so much that I have started to notice that I am not photographing the neighborhood-floods well enough. I have even started waking up some mornings feeling regret for missing the evening skyline from the drone-view. I've been studying sand-mining in floodways recently, IDK if it is due to your channel or hurricane season but cleaning the chloride from the sand-washing is quite interesting. The chlorides from sand can turn the water blue, but there are blue cyanobacteria too. I am testing putting large amounts of grass-clippings in 500+ gallons of water but the bacteria seems to be black & not red or green yet. The reason chloride is industrially washed out of sand is to keep the corrosive-salts from damaging our roads & cities, my county's floodway is full of sand-mines obstructing the water-flow b/c they are all being sued for releasing over 100x more than acceptable amounts of chlorides into a lake used for drinking-water(a Statewide issue). They've literally raised the floodway over the 500yr floods with pond-levees where the floodwater has ran out of space to go around the blue-water-sand-mines in the floodways. The regional health department also found excessive amounts of mammal-e.coli(possibly human biosolids) in the floodway sediment, I know the solution is to open things up to allow oxygen to get in.

Thanks for your comment, @SlackerU! It sounds like you're really delving into some fascinating and important topics. Flying drones has definitely given us a new perspective on the environment and the impact of human activities. Your insights on sand mining and its effects on floodways are eye-opening. I've also noticed how industrial activities can alter ecosystems, and the chloride issue you're studying is a great example of how complex these problems can be. Your experiment with grass clippings and water is intriguing-I’d be interested to hear more about your findings as you continue to test and observe. It’s alarming to hear about the impact on the floodways and the presence of e.coli in the sediment. Opening up these areas to oxygen sounds like a crucial step in mitigating some of these issues. It's incredible how drones can be a tool not just for capturing stunning visuals but also for observing and understanding environmental challenges. Thanks for sharing your experiences and knowledge-keep up the great work! It's inspiring to see how you're using drone technology to make a difference. If there's anything specific you'd like me to cover in future videos, feel free to let me know!

Wow, absolutely amazing, congrats on having such a huge place for pond habitat. Your dirt-roads really should have a 4%-crown, it will also allow visitors driving around to know where the center of the road is if it gets overgrown by grasses. Especially where you used organics like logs as a fill to expand the road b/c that will shrink & get softer in time. I don't have enough land for a pond but I could get a 625 gallon & under 2ft deep water tub used for horses. Water-flowers, maybe minnows to feed my hens... All of these pond YT channels might should pick a few plants to occasionally share the growth progress of. I use a channel north of me to see what their freezes do to the garden a day or so before the freeze reaches me.

Hi @John-cj3ve, Thanks for sharing your experience with both EGO and Greenworks tools. It's great to hear how you've tailored your choices to fit your needs and preferences. I agree, the physical size and handling can make a big difference, especially with something like a 14" saw. Your cooling method for the batteries is a smart way to optimize charging time - I might have to give that a try! @GrowingABetterTomorrow they now make 4" USB fans. You can find them on Amazon. They are REALLY inexpensive; and even come with a speed control! The reason I used the word 'industrial' for the pair I have;is because back in the day there was no such thing as USB; and I had one of the electricians at work wire up a couple of those CNC cooling fans with a six foot cord to plug into a wall outlet. I originally had the setup made to dry out my boots for when I'd get back from a hike; and maybe crossing a creek. That was decades ago; and I've kept them all this time. Sometimes it's good to be a packrat 😂

When my batteries are exhausted; and are warm or hot; I place them in between a pair of 4" industrial cooling fans for anywhere from 15 minutes to a half hour; depending on the size of the battery. It greatly speeds up the charging time.

I have both EGO and Greenworks. I bought the Greenworks for their size. EGO only has one battery platform; and it is quite large. Greenworks has five different platforms; making it easy to physically size the tool to the size of the battery. I have four EGO chainsaws; and wouldn't trade them for anything; but when I told myself that I wanted a 14" saw; my overriding criteria was the physical size of the tool. I didn't want a beast; I wanted a reasonably powerful saw in as small of a 'package' as I could get; which is why I selected the 40v Greenworks instead of the EGO. Can I push it as hard as the EGO? Probably not; but it's a small tradeoff for the ease of handling that the 40v Greenworks offers.

I love mine. Bought in Dec 23. There is just me with no pets. Since i did the filter mod, the coils remain clean. The guy that came up with the filter mod also shows how to do a deep cleaning with a sprayer. Sonce the unit os a sealed system, with the drain oppened all the water will flow out as you do the deep clean. If doing multiple loads, it is not really double the time of separate units. You only save the time of one drying cycle with separates. The ease of use is what i like. You just set it and forget it. When i had separates, i had to clean the dryer filter after ever load. So, there is no difference on filter cleaning. This is an amazing unit. The LG and Samsung appear to be good also. They include more cycle options but really do you need 32 cycles? All 3 have advantages and disadvantages. GE comes with a 5 year heat pump warranty, the others are 1 year. If you are looking for energy savings than a heat pump system is a great option.

Hi @maf11300, Thanks for sharing your experience with your unit and the filter mod. It sounds like you've got a great system in place to keep it running smoothly. I agree, the ease of use is a major benefit - setting it and forgetting it saves so much time and hassle. The deep cleaning method with a sprayer is a fantastic tip, especially since the unit is sealed and drains all the water out. It’s helpful to know that, with multiple loads, the time saved is mostly just one drying cycle, which isn't a big deal in the grand scheme. I also appreciate your point about cycle options - do we really need 32 cycles? Sometimes simplicity is best. The 5-year heat pump warranty from GE is a significant advantage too. Thanks again for your detailed insights! Best, Kevin
