S.H. Dudley did several records with "Whistling" in the title. This one, if you listen to the intro, is "The Whistling Bowery Boy," rather than just "Whistling."

This is "Me And Mandy Lee" (by L. Wolfe Gilbert & Kerry Mills) not "Mandy Lee" (by Thurland Chattaway). This version of "Me And Mandy Lee" is from 1914 by Collins & Harlan.

It irritates me that people keep posting this Collins and Harlan recording from the 1910s as a 1900s recording of the song Mandy Lee which is actually very rare. If people did a second of research before posting these pop history videos the current generation wouldn't bare such a striking resemblance to troglodytes.

I agree with Jessee Ferrara. Turn the volume up a bit and listen, the pre-song announcement actually states Harry Anthony!!!

Steve Porter's version in the same year (1900) seems better, albeit a Jere Mahoney's version ranked in at #10 for that year, while Porter's ranked in at #11. Would have liked to have listened to the version put out by Harry MacDonough (#21) of that year also. However, there isn't any availability on KZfaq for it...

I believe "Jere Mahoney" was actually Arthur Collins. I agree, Porter's version is better but I think this version is best kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qtGTbMlemsC7XZ8.html Its either Natus or Gaskin

@@magic_powers According to Whitburn's Pop Memories 1900-1940, Jere Mahoney was Jere Mahoney.

Lose A.D. Madeira and the song is a bit better...
@leespear1404 Жыл бұрын
If you lose Madeira, you have just the piano for much of the recording, since he is the bass. Harlan is the tenor who joins in later, and you *could* lose him without eviscerating the song.

*do not believe that this is a work of Harry MacDonaugh, however. It sounds like maybe bad quality of Harry Anthony's 1904 version?

Yes, it sounds like the intro announces " A Bird In A Gilded Cage sung by 'Herb' Anthony 'Edison' Records"

Harry MacDonough of Canada was undoubtedly both the artist and the new artist of the year for 1900!!!

Are you positive that this was recorded in 1900?

How come you have all the songs I was looking for in complete versions? Wonderful!

Thank you for having uploaded this, the other versions are always the same, cleaned up with a software (ruined, actually) and lacking the last second.
