Man, I could make the drive down to Laguna Seca but even if I had the money to burn some tires and throw in some pads and fluid, that right dip at 1:30 scares the crap out of me, that's the oil pressure dip murderer lol Some crazy g-forces held there, 1+ into slides looks like a lot of fun.

Beautiful lap. The oil pressure drops on right hand turns is a scary thing. I fear this on my GR 86

You can try to data log and monitor your pressures to see if an overfill may help in your scenario. It also depends on track layout, lateral G, and RPM.

Hi, I’m looking to get a gr86 and go to track and was wondering if you done anything about the oil starvation or is it just ppl making it up about this car?
@studiousGR863 күн бұрын
The data speaks for itself, there are definitely reasons to be concerned about pressure drops in the right hand turns. As of right now, I have not done anything except for a 0.5-1qt overfill, which definitely helps, but does not fully solve the issue. There are solutions being developed, like the new Verus larger oil pan, that hopefully will address the issue

Nice lap and well made video! I believe it may worth doing a session with short shifting before the right hand side turns in order to avoid the oil press drops. You may loose some time but I think your oil pressure will be steady in the nominal value.

Thank you! If you notice, I already am using 4th gear for T4 and T10. On the SX2 tires, I don't see a pressure drop there, likely due to fewer lateral Gs, but on the V730, the higher lateral G causes the pressure drop, even in a higher gear

yes and no. the oil pressure drops really should not be happening, but also there isn't anything I can really do about them right now, short of an accumulator. If you have been keeping up with 900brz, there will be a solution in the future that I will likely adopt. But until that is available, there isn't much I can do about it right now.

I like your driving style. No nonsense jerky moves. Just business. I have the BRZ version with Ohlins RT coilovers, Perrin 22mm front and 19 mm rear SB, Whiteline LCA and Perrin steering lockdown. 18x8 lightweight Fast wheels and 225 wide indy500 tires. -2.5 degrees camber all around. The car has pretty non body roll and pulls similar lateral acceleration as yours on skinnier tires. I was was wondering why everyone is running 17" tires on the track?
@studiousGR862 ай бұрын
Thanks! 86 Challenge requires 17" GT Radial SX2 tires, as that is the spec tire. 17" also is cheaper so it works out!

Great run, sir, deep respect! About the oil pressure level: it's REALLY good news the fact that 1q of overfill quite solves the issue, without the need to install aftermarket pieces! If I can ask, how do you measure such an overfill? I still don't really understand when the oil level is at its "max", because the two sides of the dipstick always show different readings: when one side is at the max, the other side is usually below; what side is the "right" reading, the one with the higher or the one with the lower mark?...
@studiousGR862 ай бұрын
I wouldn't say its solved, it's just mitigated. Usually I fill until the dipstick reads the top dot, then add X amount on top. You always take the reading of the lower side of the dipstick.
@__ALIEN__2 ай бұрын

hey man idk if you get asked a lot but do you have a oil baffle installed, and would you recommend one for regular street driving, although the oiling issues on these boxer engines really only occur on high G right hand turns and most normal people that wont be an issue or will it?
@studiousGR863 ай бұрын
I don't have an oil baffle, just 1 qt overfill for the track. For street/canyon driving, you will likely be fine with a smaller (0.5)qt overfill. I wouldn't run a baffle for now because there isn't one that shows any significant improvement. SYMS baffle seems to be the best option currently, but it is not a big enough improvement for me to go for it yet. There are talks of a larger oil pan being developed, and likely I will wait for that
