Hi, this is the best news for the hobby in my opinion, I have 4x Hornby models and 2x Bachmann models, Hornby did factory TTS sound models, I fitted a lighting kit to my Hornby TTS model a few months ago, the hardest part is drilling the holes in the plastic light fittings because the drill bits snap very easily, the drill bit’s recommended to me to do the job are very expensive because you can only get them in a set, I managed to do the job on my DB Schenker which totally transformed it along with the cab lighting. The price of the new Bachmann 08’s will probably reflect on the new tooling and development into making the best class 08 on the market, I believe it will be around the price of their class 20 models so the basic model may be £190ish and the sound fitted will be £269 and the deluxe model around £299 or less as it’s only the additional uncoupling unit that’s added, Bachmann will set the price because it’s an updated model compared to anything else on the market because there is no real competition, if Accurascale had announced it first the price would have been very reasonable but that’s not to say they won’t produce a class 08 in the future, I’m looking forward to seeing what comes of this news as I would like a few models and like other modellers I won’t buy anymore class 08’s until I see what Bachmann do, Hornby will never update their model because they are focused on their TT scale platform so watch out for their factory lighting on their model in the future, their 00 gauge model will be left behind. If somebody 3D prints some class 08 lights with the holes pre made/drilled then they would be onto something very good in my opinion, once Bachmann release their model it may spark better lighting kits, I did see a company that supply and fit lighting in a class 08 for £70, it’s a lot of work but as I stated it does transform the loco, there are modellers whom don’t care about lighting on the class 08, as far as I concerned if it has lights in real life the the model should have, after all the technology has moved on from the 70/80s when nothing had lighting, in Europe the N gauge stem/diesel models have lighting and sound and smoke units fitted! Incredible to see with a price tag to match.

As an owner of one Lima, and two Hornby Railroad (the 70s tooling) 08s, I think the best news for me is the likely pushing of more of the current Bachman and modern Hornby ones on to the second hand market at a sensible price :D I don't think you'll see change from 200 quid for even the most basic model in the range of this new one. Looks great, but probably over detailed for normal model railway viewing distances.

Shenfield is a major commuter station in Essex. Located on the Colchester, Norwich main lines out of Liverpool Street, it is the junction for the Southend Victoria and Southminster services. The 'Shark' became an iconic feature of the local landscape, and was built originally by BR in the 1950s as a Ballast Plough for levelling ballast during track relaying. It got dumped in the siding after it apparently suffered over heated axle bearings in early 2000, and with the advent of Privatisation, effectively became ownerless. Several attempts at it's recovery for preservation never came to anything, as it's location and condition made it challenging (and expensive) to retrieve as a complete vehicle. There are several at other heritage railways, so it wasn't entirely unique, It's dismantling has caused much debate on various media platforms, but it has to be acknowledged that not all things can be preserved for posterity, and at the end of the day, no doubt someone will put a blue plaque and photo of it on the wall in tribute!

Am surprised it wasn't saved by some heritage railway, would've been a nice restoration project for someone!

Um... Shenfield is actually east of London on the eastern side of Brentwood on the Great Eastern area, the lines coming from Southend and the East Coast via Chelmsford heading towards Liverpool Street. It is the terminus for the Metro service which was taken over by MTL to become the eastern end of Crossrail (or Elizabeth Line if you insist) after operating as a line serving the suburban areas of Essex since the late 19th century serving the main stops of Liverpool Street, Stratford, Ilford, Romford, Gidea Park and Shenfield. I'll be honest i really dont know the South East, so a mistake on my part! Thanks for your follow up information on the area :-) And yes ... Mainly BBC Micro but have played with and even helped build versions of RISC OS. See the main channel: kzfaq.info

May I ask about that PIXEL image right in the center of your background? It looks like the cover of an old magazine. What country was this published then in? What year? I have the fondest memories of a publication of the same title in Greece, covering micros mostly. Needless to say it faded along with them...

Hello... So the Magazine is called PIXEL Addicts and its a relatively new mainstream print publication here in the UK www.pixel.addict.media Although it can also be bought online as a digital PDF. Currently Im a guest writer for them having a few articles published in the last 3 recent editions - More information about the magazine in these videos over in the main @wifisheep channel. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/htF-nZqEvJiodZc.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jZ6Kn7KlrdjMlGQ.html

It does all feel a little bit like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted. As we've seen on your channel, and on Explaining Computers, there are some great Raspberry Pi alternatives out there and you can actually get hold of them. Not only that but they're adding genuinely useful features like on-board flash storage and M.2 interfaces. If it wasn't for wanting to run Risc OS I don't think I'd be particularly bothered about getting another Raspberry Pi, especially given how the maker / hobbyist market has been treated.

Great ides moving to a USB power supply, especially if you were going through that many batteries. I just wonder why you didn't solder in to the back on the battert terminals? Might have made for a neater finish in terms of putting the plastic cover back on?

Good question! So I though about doing that, but 1) I still wanted to be able to switch back to batteries again in the future if required and 2) Id have still needed holes in the sides as these clip into fixed mounts under the shelfs, so i'd still be cutting holes! I will admit this was a little rushed, as it was done in the dying days of 2022 and I needed these lights not failing on me during the new years live stream. So there was an element of PANIC! LOL
