wow wow wow , here me out but at 31:36 i don't think it would be the corps of Elster at the "promisse" ending but the memory ending , where the cycle continue because elester didn't kill ariane in the memory ending, we can see she still wear the Lstr armor in memory ending , where in leave ending not, that would be why there is so many lstr unit out of the ship exept the original lstr or the memory ending lstr to finish with the Promisse ending , breacking hopefully the cycle

I haven't played it yet (stuck 4 hours in, right after getting a radio chip and a key to the elevator). And I am mostly stuck mentally - it is, indeed, scary. And I don't like being scared. Is there a trick to do this? To overcome fear, or at least guarantee that it doesn't turn into a nightmare fuel chasing you during episodes of insomnia?

Madotsuki being Poniko's unborn daughter is an insane twist and honestly the concept of a fetus sharing a dream with it's mother seems great.

Thanks for this review! I tried reading the light novel but I didn't like the changing perspective so this overview was helpful.

You should check out a manga called Blame by Tsutomu Nihei, they clearly took heavy inspiration for character design and world building!

I just wonder what happened to the original build of this game. Whatever they originally had in mind for us was undoubtedly supposed to be terrifying. Think of the sequence in the very first trailer we got where the pig busted down the door that never made it into the final product. You could even say the second trailer spoke that same message to, the one where Oswald walked through that door with the plastic slaughter house strips and seemed to lead to an area similar to the church basement. It looked like it was originally geared to control a lot like TDD did but something between that first trailer and release derailed the game into being something completely different. The narrative, creature design, and setting is good enough that if frictional were to go back and overhaul this title in means of gameplay then this could actually be a good game. Especially in today’s politics with all the war and shit, a story like this might hit home with people.

I think one reason all the references didn't bother me is because the rest of the game is SO out there and mysterious, that any hint of familiarity was openly welcomed. As if the reference itself was like a piece of the puzzle and I could think back to these other pieces of source material to glean some bit of truth as to what was going on. Or at the very least to know that this all felt very intentional. It's the same kind of feeling I would get when classical paintings were flashing onto the screen. It's supposed to mean something. On the other hand when the Evil Within did its homage, it took place in the same manner and timing as the original, making it feel predictable and formulaic. Signalis was none of those things.

Listening to it now bc it celebrated its birthday yesterday. I haven’t listened to Devin’s music in a few months but this sounds as fresh and colorful as when it came out. Might actually be a top 3 Devin album for me. I don’t really care that the drums are programmed, they sound good to me.

i came to a lil realization when i you showed the picture we find in the penrose of the game. atp it shows Ariane instead of Alina and only her, elster is blotched out and i feel like that is like a small piece of symbolism. i think it symbolizes how unlike Ariane, the original Elster is dead and has been dead for a while now. Ariane has been projecting their memories of love out into the universe in an attempt to complete the promise they made together but *her* Elster is already gone. the isle of death is used to symbolize what Ariane is idealizing in her current state (an end to her suffering aka death) and Elster has already gone past that point, unwittingly leaving her behind. Falke loves her and the Elster units attempting to complete “their” promise love her but the original lover is gone, that feels a little redundant to say again but if you follow the interpretation that the Elster unit we use to replace our body parts is the original Elster than the degradation of Rotfront as a result of the constant loop blurring the lines between “reality” and what it is now could then be extended to how the og Elster unit now looks as a result of the cycle.

I recently played A Machine for Pigs in one sitting just as I did with Dark Descent. Both are phenomenal games in their own right. I like them both equally for different reasons. Dark Descent felt empowering as Daniel fought valiantly to defeat the evil one who deceived him, whilst Machine for Pigs felt woefully remorseful as Oswald fought the evil he had created from his dystopian delusion of "peace" through control, betrayal, and bloodshed. I feel that Dark Descent has more replay value between having more achievements and also custom stories, but the atmosphere on top of the story of Machine for Pigs felt so dangerous, lonely and intricate that I was immersed the whole time.

Excellent video. AMFP has forever and always been my favorite Amnesia game. Its story, similar to more character-driven stories like Bioshock 2, is often misunderstood. Hard to say without sounding pretentious, but it’s true: people don’t “get” this game, which is sad.

I remember reading these when I was first becoming more of an avid reader. Perry's enthusiasm for the franchise was very much evident in the writing and I feel that was mostly to the benefit of the story. I think this version of Wesker works as it shows the sort of person who could develop into the villain he is in later games. The sense of entitlement and superiority was always there but smaller-scale less focussed than it would be later on. Also my fave take on Rebecca. My head-cannon is that Trent is functionally the player. One oddly good game-novel adaption was the FPS Fire Warrior (a 40K tie-in). The game itself was rather flawed but the novel had some fun human-through-alien-eyes moments.

Wesker is so much creepier in the Code Veronica novel. He basically asks Chris if is sister is hot and then talks about the "hardon" he currently has. Its so fucking jarring and weird.

I also caught most homages as well. I felt the uses of them were impactful in a good sense. Catching the references made the story and emotional beast click for me. The Eva refence was a smoking gun for me regarding the mystery of the story and found its use very pleasing. As for why they don't feel forced its because there integration is smooth and doesn't brake the flow for a cheep gag but elevates the story, scene, or moment.
