They put a 16 g in me onetime, I was a CNA at the time and had just begun having high BP. It was super high when I was working and I was forced to go to the ER and they put that thing in and I look and see Grey and was like what the heck?! I am used to 18 g and 17 g though as I have donated Platelets regularly.

Just had a scheduled C-section and this gave me the chills. They tried 3 different times to get the block in place...4th times the charm. I was crying by the time they finally got the spinal block 😭😭

Nah, it was me who turned the Gluten Free Roasted Rosemary Garlic into the bread it was before R&R closed up. The surge in popularity I was told was because of my changes to it. It's cake really, I MIGHT talk about it later, once I figure out where Ryan actually fits into my life since he's obviously more than just my middle name.

I get so excited when I see 1 Of your videos in my feed. Hats off to the Doctor that intubated himself! Holly smokes I can't imagine that. I can't imagine being intubated while awake period. Your so rt though. Explaing to pts what your doing while doing something makes a huge difference. Your pts are so blessed to have u! I'd ask for your autograph then have it tattoo on arm. Thanks for a awesome video! 😊😊❤❤

One issue I've seen on lots of medical intakes is that the forms still ask "do you use illegal drugs" or "do you use any drugs not prescribed by a doctor". But in a state with medical marijuana, a registered user could truthfully answer "no" to both, but the medical provider isn't getting the answer they need.

If he did that so easily and atraumatically then why did it feel like a rusty nail was used to intubate me during my general anesthesia? I had a urological procedure in my lower abdomen. I had almost no pain from the biolateral incisions but mythroat hurt like hell for several days.

As a veterinary surgeon, I often reverse propofol in my patients (usually dogs, it is less tolerated in cats so we mostly use ketamine). Since you say there is no reversal agent for propofol, you are in some sence right, but also wrong. So I will now tell you how to do it :) We premedicate the dog with dexmedetomidine and an opioid (in dogs typicall butorphanol, but sometimes fentanyl or methadone). The required propofol dose is then reduced by 85 %. So a dog of 10 kg (ca 20 lbs) would need 65 mg of propofol without premedication - but only 10 mg with this premedication. We have a very good reversal agent for dexmeditomidine called atipamezole. (It is licensed for use in animals, tradename Antisedan vet., not sure about humans.) Another less spesific alpha-2 antagonist is yohimbine. So if I want to wake a patient under propofol anesthesia, I give an injection of atipamezole. This blocks out the dexmeditomidine and thereby also reduces the effect of the propofol by 85 %. And as a consequence, the dog wakes up from propofol anesthesia.

If you have the patient sit up and look at the ceiling, if possible, you can get the tube down without any anesthesia.

I have woken during surgery. I saw a drill coming toward my face. Afterward, the dentist told me that I also had some sort of miniature seizure. Recently, I have wondered if maybe I moved when I woke up and we were both talking about the same moment. Who knows. I didn’t wake up until I was home, sitting in the neighbors’ living room. I was very confused and snuck out and went upstairs to my own apartment, where I somehow got inside and really woke up later. I have woken up immediately after surgery as well. I think I was speaking to everyone as if I had been awake the whole time. But other times I have woken up on the way to the recovery room, or immediately upon arrival there. Thankfully, I did not wake up the time they managed to snag my nephrostomy tube on something and ripped it out of my body. But I was fully awake and aware of the pain and pressure when they placed the nephrostomy tubes (this happened twice). I was supposed to be awake, but I don’t think I was supposed to feel the pain. It was not fun. I have also remembered things from very early recovery, and people assumed I was hallucinating even though I was completely lucid. On the other hand, I have been unconscious and taken to the emergency room by ambulance. I lost almost all memory of about three days. I had random memories of specific moments, such as being unable to sign a consent form on a tablet, being about to be put into an MRI machine, asking for a catheter instead of getting up to provide a urine sample, etc. Thankfully, I was able to piece together a lot of things that happened from reading my chart online later. I also discovered several inaccuracies, which made me skeptical of some people’s abilities. For some additional context, I’m a redhead and I have EDS, autism, ADHD, etc.

Yeah I wish I'd been warned before my hysterectomy that the IV medication they were giving could make me have no memories after that. It was really upsetting to not have any memory unexpectedly until I woke up (in horrible, unmanaged pain). I was told it'd help my anxiety. That was it. I have memory problems as it is, but this was Different and I was so worried about my brain for weeks.

I’ve had good and bad encounters with doctors and this issue. I had one doctor literally laugh at me, he took my hand that he said needed surgery and squeezed the joint and asked me if that hurt. It hurt horribly. It caused bruising! I never went back to that doctor. On the other hand, I once heard my orthopedic physician tell her assistant that she had to give me more anesthesia because I was a redhead. Women do have a tougher time speaking with doctors and being taken seriously.

3 times out of surgery, I came out with a drunk, happy, come on, people let’s chat, lets laugh kind of mood. 1 time I woke with a horrible headache which no one took seriously. They finally gave me some Tynelol. And 1 time, I woke up drenched and as a late bed wetter, I thought I had wet the bed so started to panic. Then I noticed I was naked under the sheet panicked some more. It was such a horrible experience that I’m now scared of getting surgeries. 😢

Hello Dr. Feinstein, the slow motion was a very funny blooper. I thought you were doing a remix. It is very amazing and humbling to see that intubation, being only one part of the whole package of care, in itself requires so much skill and education. I thought I could not revere the specialty anymore than I do, then I see another new video and I'm in awe a whole new way. Thank you so much for your care and your videos.

I’ve been under general anesthetic three times - tonsils, gall bladder, and wisdom teeth removals. The first two I went under and immediately woke up after. The wisdom teeth, however, I was in a white, warm, peaceful place. I was given a choice if I wanted to “go back”. Then I was floating over myself as I was being taken to recovery.

Max, I wanted to just say how much I love your channel! I find you an extremely great speaker and your ability to educate is superb. I am a Doctor of Chiropractic myself, so I started watching out of pure curiosity as I have a son in college currently who is interested in anesthesiology as a career. I have come to find that I do enjoy learning about your field of medicine that I watch regularly. I recently was a patient as well, and had to receive anesthesia for a knee surgery. Your channel helped me understand the process of what I would be experiencing as well as know how I would be cared for. This gave me a lot of confidence in my anesthesia team. In short, keep up the excellent work! I see you as a future leader in your field of medicine as well as a compassionate physician who loves how you affect the lives of patients daily. I think you for your time and hard work in producing this channel.

What can I ask them to add to prevent me fighting them mid surgery while under General Anaesthesia (white)? Also what can they add to prevent me being in massive amounts of pain when I wake? Morphine causes my heart to start and stop over and over.

The thought of being aware during surgery terrifies me!! Also, I was given fentanyl for heli transport after an accident. From the time it properly knocked me out to waking up in the CT scanner, I remember nothing. But there was a short time before this, where I was being moved to the heli, I couldn't see anything, but I could feel myself being moved and could see all sorts of colours folding in on me and I honestly thought I was dying. Terrifying, and that memory wasn't wiped by the fentanyl.

In Germany there is a duty to rescue in force, for lay people and professionals. The difference is, that if someone who is a medical professional or in another position where at least wider range first aid is trained on a regular base (volunteer firefighters, police officers, lifeguards,...) the punishment will be harder than for a lay person who had once in the lifetime the mandatory first aid training for the driving lincense. If you are as a e.g. volunteer firefighter in uniform/ marked car on the way to a training or something it turns over from not rescueing to in the worst case Manslaughter by omission! But there was one case where civilians were sentenced to prison on parole for Negligent homicide. In that case a person collapsed in front of an ATM and some civilians stepped over the unconcious man and did not the minimal measure of calling for an ambulance.

When I went into surgery for an appendectomy (which turned out to be necrotic!) I just said "get on with it". I didn't care at that point, had a nice sleep (the best in years) and woke up in the ICU. Modern anaesthetics, even dental, are fantastic! Any chance of over-the-counter?
