Thank you for such a clear explanation. Kinda new to the accounting scene so everything felt overwhelming. I'm a Data Science major with a concentration on Accounting Analytics so I feel that advisory is the path for me. But I heard that not being an accounting major can be a turn off to recruiters because they want someone who's CPA eligible and I do plan on becoming CPA eligible upon completing a MAcc post-grad. How do I market myself to recruiters? I'm scared that I look like I only half one foot in the door but I'm pretty set on working in a Big 4 as an accountant, but do more work in analytics later on.
@andrewseong212 күн бұрын
No problem! The good thing is you don't need an accounting degree to work in advisory. If you're still in school, I'd recommend networking as much as possible whether it's through career fairs, alumni events, etc. It sounds like you're positioning yourself well already so just continue to express your interest and get to know people in your preferred line of work!

What were the reason you chose to become a CPA instead of sticking with finance? Currently debating whether to start an accounting or finance minor. Which do you prefer overall?
@andrewseong2Ай бұрын
I decided to get my CPA license mainly for the credentials but then worked in consulting/advisory before transitioning over to finance. With that being said, if you are looking to either minor in accounting or finance, I think accounting is generally a better option because it really is “the language of business.” However, it does also depend on what type of career you are looking to go into.

If you're comparing the top finance jobs vs the top accounting jobs right out of school, your earning potential is greater in finance. However, as mentioned in the video, if you look at average pay there's not much difference

Thanks for an informative video. I have a question on Sofi. Can I deposit $5000 from my bank savings account and still be qualify for the bonus? Do I have to maintain the $5000 in the account to receive the 4.6% APY? TIA
@andrewseong2Ай бұрын
The bonus is based on the amount you receive from direct deposits, which would not include $5,000 you deposit yourself into the account. Direct deposits are deposits from your employer, payroll, benefits provider, or government agency. In order to receive the 4.6% APY every month, you either need to enroll in direct deposit or make continued qualifying deposits of at least $5,000 throughout each 30-day evaluation period.

not a bank, and technically not a High yield savings account, but robinhood and a few other brokerages offer 5%+ if you're on their gold or premier programs. those usually cost 5 bucks or so a month but they're well worth it if you're just looking for a high yield cash account

No mention of EverBank out of Jacksonville, FL. They currently have a 5.15% APY on savings and a 4.3% APY on their money market accounts, and those rates are guaranteed for 1 year for new clients! Over 50 billion in assets, and they offer free checks, a free Visa debit card, no fees, ATM reimbursement, and free financial advisors. If you go to Florida, they have branches you can actually walk into.

You're not just paying for the apartment itself, you're paying for the view, you're paying for the location, you're paying for the amenities, and you're paying for the convenience of almost everything being within walking distance. You'd be surprised how many people live in luxury apartments that don't own or use their car in the downtown area.

Buying is always preferable if you don't have to borrow a ton of money. But yeah, buying is stupid because interest repayments are stupid. Most people will end up paying double for their house because that's what the interest repayments will calculate to. So if you don't have money to buy your house out right, you're either putting money in interest or rent, either way its a money pit, so choose your poison. Renting is better if you have discipline to put the money saved from interest repayments into stock markets or something.
@andrewseong23 ай бұрын
Yeah, investing the would-be down payment is crucial if deciding to rent
@kursdragon3 ай бұрын
Not understanding that money today is worth way more than future money is wild. That's a big reason as to why interest can't just be looked at in a vacuum. Saying you pay "double the home value" is meaningless when a lot of that money is coming in the future that's worth less.
@MrAkaacer3 ай бұрын
