There are bunch of preloads to choose when you order a ballnut. It depends of application. For example an preloaded 50 mm diameter double ball nut can be severely worn and still have 1 Nm of backing torque. In conveyor positioners and some fast robotic arms there are ball nuts like this with no preload. You cannot choose random preledoad, the application, the torque of the drives, the precision required and the speed are crucial.

@@Jackall37 in this case its a 3/8ths screw(judging by fingers). The smaller the shaft the tighter the fit.
