Just found your note in a drawer telling us to watch these 4 videos! They are brilliant Mark. Ray and I have loved watching them. What a wonderful 40th Birthday experience.

Absolutely superb Mark! Your playing is top notch. It must have been a wonderful experience playing that famous WurliTzer and having the support of Chris Hopkins whose filming of you at the console - and of the couples dancing - was splendid. Well done to you both!

Really good. I’ve done this twice now, but I didn’t get a decent video, which was a bit dumb! There are quite a few Wurlitzers around the UK but the ambiance and history of Blackpool Tower Ballroom make it a truly memorable experience. I was enormously grateful to Chris Hopkins, the professional Tower organist who turned out at an early hour to supervise me and show me around the organ. I’m impressed with your playing. It’s a fairly intimidating experience, maybe overwhelming is a better word, and the organ is SO LOUD! You can’t practice quietly! I hope you manage to make further visits as it all helps to keep the old girl going!

Many thanks for you kind comments Lee. Another 3 years and it will be my 50th Birthday, so hopefully my family can club together again for another visit. Chris Hopkins showed me around the organ too, and did most of the filming for me (on my camera). If you visit again, ask him to film you. Cheers Mark

Yes already on my list along with the tram driver experience.... Are you allowed to play whatever you want? Im thinking of doing Reg Dixon impersonation - not that I'd ever come close...
@lloydm997 жыл бұрын
Absolutely - you can play anything. I had Chris Hopkins showing me the stops and selecting different sounds for me. He did the videoing too. Looking forward to seeing your videos on here! Cheers Mark

Hi ceegeeBarron Yes, I'm playing from standard music, mostly treble clef and chord symbols. I did around 10 years on the dance circuit in Cheshire and Staffordshire, so picked up some ideas / sometimes bad habits from there. Cheers Mark

This is fantastic - thank you for posting! Really enjoyed this video. I did the Wurlitzer experience twice - both for birthday presents. The first time was in 2004 and then recently last Thursday 30th May 2013. Only disapointing side to it is that the first time I went I had no grey hairs!!!!

Thanks Graeme - always nice to get positive comments, particularly from someone who has played there!

Well Done, very nice playing !

Thanks for the comments! You get 3 guests and obviously yourself within the main price, and then each additional guest is £5 pp. Wasn't aware that the organ wasn't at its full potential - the sound was no different to when the tower organists were playing it later in the day. Cheers

I was going to do this around my 50th birthday but it coincided with half the organ being out of action so that idea was scuppered.Still my missus wouldnt have been too chuffed spending £250 on theatre organ stuff!She hates the things!Saw John Bowdler last night so ive got the whole Blackpool thing going again.
