Thanks for the tips. I never thought about setting on camera audio from stereo to mono (but usually record VO in mono). I'll consider that in future workflows.

Affinity Designer for me these days. It might not have as many features, but the ones it does have work sooooo much better for what I need them for. Plus it's a one time fee. Win win for me.

Totally agree. I have been a faithful and happy customer of Adobe since the very early nineties mainly for Photoshop (which I used in the mid eigthies on a 128K Macintosh, even before Adobe bought it from their creators the Knoll Bros), Illustrator, Flash, Dreamweaver and, believe it or not, Bridge which I find very convenient. I had my employers buy and upgrade every single year up to CS5 (didn't bother for CS6 since I was slowly in my retirement process) I keep using my officially acquired CS5 Photoshop for personal purpose, but with more and more difficulties and crashes due to the evolution of my Mac OS and I know I cannot upgrade my High Sierra otherwise I couldn't run CS5 anymore. InDesign and Acrobat are already dead and I have to use my very very slow even older Mac if I want to use acrobat... I would have gladly and officially upgraded with my own money to the latest version to hopefully give me another 10-15 years of services, but renting is absolutely out of question. I am 66 and have never rented anything in my life. I even bought my house at the age of eighteen. I am of a generation where either you can afford it and you buy or you cannot and then you simply forget about it. Furthermore, it is out of question for me to stay connected to a server and have my work shared on other people's servers, be it Adobe or any other big brothers who control what you are doing. I make a point not to have a single thing on the "cloud". The least thing I trust is the net and large corporations. What about young designers who struggle to find clients or get sick or have an accident of life, or during a pandemic like Covid19? Their income are reduced but they still have to pay to rent their tools. They are the one who suffer from the economic situation while multi-billions (235 billion) Adobe and its greedy shareholders still fill their pockets. This is totally unacceptable and yes, I went from very happy customer to a very angry and disgusted one. Just bought Affinity Photo (at 50% discount until Aug.15) and became as happy a customer as I was when I acquired my first license of Photoshop. I hope Affinity will not turn evil like Adobe did. I will now become a loyal customer and ambassador of Affinity. Bye bye Adobe.

Thank you for the video. The whole world is applauding mirrorless cameras, especially almost every photographer on KZfaq. Granted, mirrorless cameras do possess some unique advantages however, the pro DSLRs that Canon and Nikon used to produce few days ago are great capable cameras for sure. I started by hobbyist photography activities back in 2009 with Canon entry-level models like 450D and 50D. Used them happily till 2014 and then sold them out. Subsequently, I bought used pro bodies like 1D Mark IV, 5D Mark II, 5D Mark III and 7D. These stalwarts are entirely different workhorses from those I owned previously. There’s nothing my present cameras are unable to perform as per my desire. Moreover, OVF is a huge advantage for me. Every mirrorless camera suffers from EVF lag but I see my subjects and actions instantly at the speed of light and capture them accordingly. Mirrorless cameras are unable to bridge this gap by default. Perhaps that’s the reason why Sony A9III incorporated precapture option. DSLR can start capturing action from the moment it occurs whereas; mirrorless cameras are little behind. A fraction of a second is a huge delay for capturing action which is why one second has been divided into 8000 parts in all pro-grade cameras. Again, as a wildlife photographer, I do not need the eye AF at all. Because, the beauty of animals is confined to their bodies and feathers, never in the eye. I also use native premium super telephoto lenses for this purpose that give me great service. The highest burst rate on my cameras is 10 fps. This is more than enough for me. Never miss any action in the wild. I love my DSLRs and won’t ever part with them. Granted CaNikon have stopped manufacturing them; I really don’t care. The pro bodies I use can crank up millions of shutter actuations which gives me the feeling that, I won’t need to replace them in the next ten years at the least. Needless to mention, all my bodies have tons of shutter life remaining. Yes, dynamic range is Canon’s Achilis heel. This is why I’m contemplating a used 5D Mark IV in which Canon has made amends in this area. Image quality and color science? Absolutely no difference. Thanks again.

Adobe's behavior borders on criminal. It takes me back to when InDesign beat QuarkExpress in the desktop publishing race, yes I've been an Adobe client for that long! For a while they offered an incredible product range but their absolute greed and lack of leadership has resulted in many looking for alternatives. Thankfully we now have viable and inexpensive/free alternatives in Davinci Resolve and Affinity Publisher/Designer/Photo. These are exciting times!

I don’t know what everyone is crying about? I have the full catalog subscription and it’s only 60 bucks a month plus it’s a right off? I run a real estate media business so a good portion of their software is essential for my business. The integration between them all is invaluable to me. Definitely speeds up the work flow. If you’re working for yourself running your own business, stop crying about the lifelong expense. Blows my mind, that’s like Walmart or McDonald’s crying about their month POS systems cost 😂😂😂😂

But if you stop using Adobe and begin with something else, will it not be quite the same with downloading software and updates for money? And you still have to rent the software, you don’t get it on dvd with serial number. What will the big difference be? Or are there companies that still provide software on disc in a package?

Adobe subscriptions lock you into the subscription for a year with cancellation fees that charge you for the remaining portion of the year if you cancel before the year is up. Therefore, your point about using Adobe for a short term project then cancelling the subscription is moot. It is NOT cost effective to have an Adobe subscription for ANY reason when there are alternative softwares that do what Adobe does and can be purchased outright for WAY less than an annual Adobe subscription.

When I click on stats for nerds it DOES NOT show volume. I will go elsewhere to watch videos. KZfaq is holding me hostage. If I cannot hear videos because the volume is turned down so low why watch KZfaq. And I am not going to pay for anything to help increase the volume. KZfaq needs to turn it up. This is a ridiculous protocol. What moronic idiot decided that this was a good idea?

Depends on what features of Lightroom you use.. I switched to Darktable and after the learning curve I find it to be more powerful for my needs than Lightroom was (Tone Equalizer, diffuse/sharpen, parametric masks etc etc.) If your needs aren't super complex you could do fine with RawTherapee. If you want a commercial raw developing software, Capture One is well liked as well.

Adobe Acobat was a core program from the origin of Adobe. I used it in business for decades owning versions from "3" through "11". After retirement, I had little need of it, but it was there. Last year, I had to upgrade my computer, requiring that Acrobat be re-installed. That installation required not just the usual processes, but in the final step, you had to access your "Adobe Account" on line to recover the final password for installation. Now, here's the trick. When you try to access your Adobe Account, you cannot. After catching a live Adobe rep on the phone, Adobe finally admitted that when they moved to a subscription mode, they deleted all the existing Acrobat user accounts, so no pre-existing customer could re-install the non-subscription Acrobat software they had purchased. It took an hour and a quarter of phone chat, but in the end, Adobe caved and remotely activated my installation. Of course, if I have to re-install Acrobat in the future, there is no guarantee that I'll get the same result.

I have never paid for a single piece of software. Just call me Captain Jack Sparrow, a pirate. I have never bought Windows or Adobe, and I build computers and am a professional photographer. I also dabble in digital art and 3D modeling and CAD. I thought back then that paying $1200 for software that edits photos is insane, and now the idea of paying $60 for software to edit photos is still insane. I have never paid and I never will. Autodesk Inventor, 3ds Max, Maya, Photoshop, Illustrator, Affinity Designer, Camtasia, Corel Painter -- never paid for any of it. And I never will. People, learn to create rules in your Windows Firewall, and go nuts. F*ck subscriptions. Know what pisses me off is the fact that colleges are making students pay for Adobe subscriptions -- because they are beholden to Adobe, for whatever reason -- even if the student only needs Adobe for a single day, or week, or month, or however long it takes to finish a project required for a class. Even though that student will only have need for that software for however long it takes for he or she to complete a college project requiring Adobe, he or she is locked into Adobe's subscription for a year. THAT is the basis for a lawsuit, it is patently evil. Nevermind the headache of getting out of that subscription. And don't think for a moment that Adobe doesn't know this. Of course they do. And the colleges promoting Adobe know this too. I wouldn't be surprised if Adobe were giving colleges across the country free licenses for college instructors as long as the colleges required the students to buy the Adobe subscriptions out of their own pockets. Again, people, pay for nothing. Even if it isn't a subscription model, it is almost certainly massively overpriced. Just find some key generators, some cracks, some DLLs, and go nuts. I don't care. The little guy struggling to create a business model or break into an industry doesn't have the money to pay $2000 for CAD software. It's ridiculous. The little guy needs to get smarter. Keep your money. Those corporations are rich enough.

Adobe is full-on evil in terms of greed. I have never seen a company so greedy. Their products are all EXTREMELY expensive... and to be honest, they are pretty poorly-written. Meanwhile, their CEO, an EAST INDIAN (of an American company) has moved all of their software developers to India. This guy makes $44M a year. He should be forced out at the very least.

AI or not, they are trying to set a precedent under which they can access and use your work for free. That collection of work should be treated as confidential. I don't want random people viewing my stuff. As for AI, it would be a tall order to demand that each and every element in an image, video, sound be given credit to the original creator but, we should have some say in what areas we do not want it used.

I can feel your pain, I stopped using adobe long time ago as a professional photographer. As a Lightroom alternative, I use Darktable It’s the best open source photo editing software that has never let me down for my professional photo editing.
