No one expected Ace to challenge Akainu. It happened so fast, even if Garp set him free, it still would've happened. Ace's fate was to sacrifice himself for Luffy. No one could've stopped it. You know it killed Garp. That was his grandson, and so is Koby. Garp won't let it happen again. He's the best.

why garp doesnt help ace? bcause ace doesnt want too. did you remember, garp coming to ace and said to ace : "what am i suppossed to do?" and ace not even answering. i like garp and ace. but for that situations you need to move on bro. the power of one piece is the story's itself. if only ace ask garp to help him, i swear to god garp would solo that marineford by himself for sure.

Ace was a pirate. Garp wanted him to be a marine so badly, but Ace made his own choice. Koby is like the son Garp never had, a marine to follow in his footsteps. Garp didn’t have a choice in Marineford, and once Ace was killed Sengoku had to hold Garp down from killing Akainu. Garp cried even before Ace died because he knew he couldn’t save him. Ace was facing the consequences that Garp warned him about that come with being a pirate. Now Garp has this opportunity to save someone like Ace, while punching a whole bunch of pirates. Marineford would have caused the death of too many marines and Garp betraying the marines by saving Ace.

It was inevitable, Ace was going to face Akainu because Akainu expected it to happen. He and Borsalino were ready for Ace to get set free. It happened so fast.

Garp didn't rescue Ace because that was a necessary character moment. After Ace, he vowed never to let his stubbornness and values as Marine get in the way of saving someone he cares about. His interaction with Dadan must have been another huge eye-opener. You can't change the past and the ones you've lost, especially if you didn't raise a hand to help them. But you can save the future. (Loved the reaction, I'm not grilling you here lol)

@@GluTTony_0 that's valid, man. I bet Garp regrets it a lot too and is channeling that regret into a galaxy sized punch! 💪 I was furious with Garp too, when it happened. Loved Ace to bits. But I think after the Dadan incident, I could tell my man was feeling extremely ashamed of it. Character growth is a beautiful thing, and I want to believe he did this not just for Koby, but to redeem himself in his own eyes.

One Piece characters have been perceiving, reacting to and dodging light speed attacks since pre timeskip with the Pacifista's being stated to copy Kizaru's laser light beams, Kuma's air canon pads which were states to move at light speed and pre timeskip Zoro was dodging them. Also there's some crazy manga scaling that I won't get into since I don't know if you only watch the anime but yea.
