going on 56 and about to get back on a dirt bike. Rode dirt bikes back in the 80s and 90s but only street bikes these days. Highlights back in the day were a PE250 and later a YZ490. I rode a mates modern KTM450 and was amazed at how far dirt bikes have developed since the 80s. I wanted to get back on one before I'm to old to do it any more. A couple of mates are keen to do some rides together and I'm looking forward to it.

Yes, I'm aware of the Rotella product and indeed, it does have the MA2 rating 👍 Lots of owners of bikes use it safely, and yet more will debate (incorrectly) that it is unsafe for bikes. It's the grade and ratings that are important 👍 We don't get the Rotella here in Australia with the MA rating, but local oil company Penrite do a product called HPR5 that is a full synthetic 5W40 'Car oil', it has the basic MA rating and is well priced.

Each to their own I guess, however nearly every second post on any Sherco page is a question on how to 'fix my fouled spark plugs', or 'what jetting should I use for xyz', or 'my engine seems dull, how do I make it snap'... People say 'leave the carb on them so they can tune it' but then none of them know how to tune the carb. EFI is self managed, self adjusting and reliable when implemented properly. (not talking about one bike only here, but EFI as a system for all vehicles). Yes, the KTM group made a big mess with their system, but every car since the late 80s has EFI and it just works 👍 I'll be buying the 300SEF 4 stroke if the 25 2 stroke is not EFI. 🙂👍 They won't legally be able to comply with the Euro 5+ emission laws with a carb. It is possible that Sherco could have a carb off road only bike and an EFI bike for places like Australia where we need to BE road registered for use on public lands. (similar to TM)...

I would try out the noz i or j needle they are my favorites for the sherco after lots of testing. You will probably have to bump up your pilot 1 size. 40 should work good. 165 main is probably good for your location, but 162 might be better
@Danger_mouse
@Danger_mouse 4 ай бұрын
Thanks for checking out the video. 👍 I'm very happy with the Sherco needle and jetting I've settled on. Having bolted the Keihin back on following the Smartcarb testing, I have actually got more bottom end power than the SC and I don't loose any of the top end of their set up either. I'll be trading the bike soon, just waiting to see if Sherco finally release them with EFI, before deciding on 2 or 4 stroke. If there's no EFI 2t, I'll be back on the SEF 👌

@@StefanJonsson1918 There is a whole new model change due to be announced anytime soon. I'll never buy an Austrian bike due to previous treatment when I had a Husqvarna. I'll stick with the family owned Shercos. Sherco might have an avenue open to them due to their smaller volume to get away with the carb still (like Beta have managed), However, I believe it would be a step backwards for the brand to do so. It may be that they release both an EFI and a carb version of the 2t (Like TM) depending on the market they're selling into & the local emission laws. If it ends up carb only, I'll happily take the new 300SEF engine in the all new bike. Both my previous SEFs were awesome to ride, a very underrated model (the best all-rounder in the range)

@Danger_mouse
@Danger_mouse 5 ай бұрын
Economy should only improve if the jetting is out on the original carb. The air/fuel ratio required to run at peak efficiency is the same whether it comes from the OEM carb, a replacement or an EFI system. If that can be set correctly, the usage will be equal.

I have had the smart carb2 on my 21 Sherco se300 for a couple years now and recently reinstalled the stock carb that has been re-jetted by the way and it ran really good almost seemed to have alittle more power over the SC. However my fuel consumption was reduced significantly were around 60miles I was having some anxiety. The SC I have gone 75miles with the same amount of fuel remaining. I am certain of this as many times I tested it using the odometer and gps same riding area etc. just saying thanks for videos
@Danger_mouse
@Danger_mouse 4 ай бұрын
@@jackflynn9169 Yes, I mentioned it in the video that we were not able to confirm the fuel usage. I have just come back from a ride this afternoon and can say for sure that the Keihin is definitely the equal of the SC in all other respects. Economy is not a factor on our rides as it typically takes us about 4-5 hours to ride a loop that sometimes might only be 30km of hand cut single track. It's the low down torque and pulling power on hills that are important and the Keihin jetting well is better by a small margin on both. * A note here, your own SC might be improved with the latest needle released by the crew for their hard enduro racers. Thanks for checking out the video.

Thanks for checking out the video. Definitely did like the simplicity of the SC2. It's a no brainier, out of the box solution for many people, and it operates like the say it does 'on the tin'. I especially like the no fuss mixture adjustment, it's a clever solution. 👍 In my own case here in Australia, and I'm a mechanic owner with a critical ear, I can make mixture changes as needed. Where we ride, I can run the same needle and jets year round and just tweak the mixture screw, and, our rides are less than a full tank so the main befits of the SC2 don't outweigh the cost here. Certainly worth considering.

Hi, any idea what the gearing of the 449 is like compared to the te250/310 of the same age? You look like your climbing up slow stuff with ease where my 250 takes a lot of clutch slip as it doesn't have much grunt low down and then that also hinders some steeper/slippery stuff as I can't just chug up it in a super low 1st gear like a lot of the ktm's have... But then the ratio's are really close together between 2nd and 6th so it's pretty buzzy on the road, I've gone 1 tooth less on the back to make it manageable between trails but that's definitely not helping for the slow stuff as you would expect. Thanks in advance.
@Danger_mouse
@Danger_mouse 6 ай бұрын
449s also have a close ratio gearbox. I geared this bike down for use in the forest. It is just barely low enough, but then top speed is limited to 80km comfortable cruising and about 100k flat out without revving to the moon. If you are looking at upgrading, look into the Shercos from 2019 on with KYB suspension 👌

I can tell you that my older 2019 300SEF was 39hp at the tyre, or about the same as a tuned KX25OF from the same year on that same Dyno. The thing about my Sherco was that it had much more power everywhere else in the rev range than the KXF 👍 Those who have ridden the new bike reckon its a ripper. Hey mate, Thanks for the message. Short answer is no, Sherco Australia doesn't import that model any more as it was around 10% of sales - most owners buying the Factory version. That said, I've owned a couple of different bikes with the OC KYBs over the years and the bikes I had with them (early WR450F and Husky TE449) both rode better than the WP Xplor. Not as good as the CC fork, but they can still be used in general single track and forest riding, some owners prefer them for technical riding like hard enduro. Definitely a workout with the dry dirt and loose gravel, could certainly have used a little moisture 😁 That said, the Tubliss on my bike at 2psi had way more traction than the other bike on the same tyre at 9psi and HD tube. The map switch is always on Angry, I don't use it 👍 I just use the throttle to control the engine. (Only time I ever really turn it to Sad is very late in a ride if we come across a rocky creek and my hands are too tired to smooth out the throttle in the rough 👍

Thanks mate. Yes that hill was a but of a challenge at 56 😁👍 Pipe is good, got a couple of dings in it, but still seems to pull OK and haven't noticed a drop in the power. For the money, I don't think you can go wrong.

Awesome manifold. I would stick it on my display shelf in my sitting room for a few months before I installed it so that I could admire it. Bike looks like its running quicker than molasses in the midday sun now.

Epic. Good stuff, looked like hard work, reckon I would have been calling for a chopper to fly me out after having a hearty.

Yeah, it's certainly not going to be on a regular loop for us 🤣 I do have an EPIRB in my backpack, it was starting to look like getting some use 🙂👍
