I'm running 4 inch springs. its been awhile, I don't even remember what brand I went with. a 1 inch body lift which allowed me to do a tummy tuck with a UCF skid plate and 1 inch motor mount lift. curry control arms. metal cloak track bar. antirock swaybars front and rear ( in the video I did not have a track bar, which contributed to the wheelie, much more stable now) Dana30 in the front with a Detroit trutrack LSD and a custom D44 from East Coast Gear in the rear stuffed with a Yukon Grizzly locker. 4:88 gears. I think that covers most of it.

true track is great for mild offroading, but I plan on putting a locker in the front. My dad has a jeep very similar to mine but has the locker in the front and trutrack in the back. when climbing ledges and obstacles in moab his does better because the rear usually has great traction with all the weight on it while climbing but the front often gets light or even lifts a tire then the true track does not work. so, I would recommend a locker in the front. If you stick with 35s, the D 30 can handle a locker within reason. @@jordanhendricks5203

yes. when this video was filmed, it was my daily driver still and I wanted the lighter weight of the narrow 33's. they did very well on and offroad except in deep mud, sand or snow when you would want more floatation.

I used to run 33's but have been on 35's for a few years now. 4:88 gears, yukon grizzly locker in the rear and Detroit trutrac in the front. a front locker is something I am planning on doing. other bits: she has a tummy tuck, Currie Antirock sway bars front and rear and a bunch of other stuff. At the time of this video, it was on 33 inch tires with a D30 front and D35 rear. 4:88 gears, Detroit trutracs front and rear. cromo axle shafts. it had a 2 inch BDS lift and a one inch body lift with a "tummy tuck" (aftermarket motor mounts and trans skid that raise the belly a few inches. currie antirock sway bar in front. rugged ridge front bumper, smittybilt rear bumper and dont remember the brand of the engine skid and rocker guards. I'm sure I'm forgetting stuf lol. Now I have her on 35's with a custom D44 in rear with Grizzly locker and 4 inch lift etc etc. she's a keeper.

I ran 2.5 inches of lift with torsens and flat fenders when I ran 33's now its 4 inches of spring lift plus a 1 inch body lift to do a tummy tuck and it's got a locked d44 in rear and running 35s now. It was a better all around jeep on the previous set up but is a better trail rig now

She's an auto. 4:88s and it used to be torsens front and rear but now it has a custom D44 in the rear with a grisly locker.

@dad3562 no shame in 31s! I bought a cheap 4x4 99 ford ranger a few years ago for camping, towing jetskis etc. Last summer took it on a few wheeling trips and was reminded how much fun you can have wheeling a more basic rig. I kinda want to buy a yj and keep it stripped down and light on 31s. Saw one the other day and it just looked so right. Glad you enjoy your jeep and I'm stoked for anypart I played in inspiring the purchase

@@slobert1970 nice!!!! Yeah no joke on 31’s. I went off-roading with a Gladiator that was lifted on 37’s and he kept getting hung up and stuck a few times, my jeep on 31’s cruised right through and over. I also want to get an old jeep that’s all stock as well. Yes thank you for the inspiration!

I have the 42rle, a 4 speed auto. I went with 4:88's and that was perfect for 33's and good with the 35's I have now. but, the 4 speed has a very deep overdriver. I'm not as familiar with the 3 speed. also, it partly depends on how you use it. if do a lot of freeway i'd probably go with 4:10. but if you dont go much over 65 go with the 4:56. I've known many jeepers who wish they had gone deeper on the gears but not many who wish they had gone smaller. especially if 35's are in the future.

@@slobert1970 thanks for your input. I did a calculator for my 3 speed with the 35’s. With 4.10 gears at 70 mph rpm’s will be at 2755. What do you think about that? With 33s and 4.10s at 70 mph will be 2922. Will the 4.10’s and 35’s still be able to rip around comfortably off road you think?

@trailrippers1588 the auto is less sensitive to gearing than a manual. 4:10s and 35s would be ok but if it was my jeep and 35s were the eventual goal I'd go 4:56.

Its a Landyatchz Switch 40. Its a drop deck style board. low center of gravity great for carving, sliding and easier on the knees as well.

Australia! you guys have an incredible outback to explore. but American TV would have me beleive everything there is posionous and trying to kill you. If I win the lottery, I'm going to ship my jeep down under and see for myself!

@@slobert1970 just come over and buy one here it will be cheaper and you need a right hand drive. You will love it. There are some awesome tracks that run sometimes for 1800 kms. When you come to Townsville or anywhere up North you will have to watch out for saltwater crocodiles and anywhere in Australia there are snakes but if you leave them alone they usually leave you alone. If you come over give me a call and I will show you around. It is really an awesome country.

Sounds like you have a good set up. My dad is also in a 5 speed with LSD44 in the rear and a locker in the front. His jeep works really well. a locker in the front makes a lot of sense because when climbing ledges and hills, it has less weight on it and is more likely to unload or lift up. In this video, when I was running 33's, I typically ran 12 PSI. now running 35's, I run 10 psi. I've never lost a bead on my steelies. If I find some money under a rock I'd love some beadlocks, but I'm pretty happy with how my rig works so I'm in no hurry.

well said. I'm on several Jeep facebook pages and so many people buy a jeep and ask off the batt what size lift and tires they should get. My reply is to get a winch and armor and go hit the trail as it is. find out what it and the driver can do. then modify as necessary to fit the type of wheeling they end up doing. last year I started doing some light offroading in my 99 ranger. its bone stock on 31's. and you know what....it was ridiculously fun. I took another friend with a similar ranger over a section of trail I have done many times in the jeep. the jeep you can just point it straight down the trail and drive over everything. in the long low ranger, we really had to think and plan our way through. it was a blast. So yes, I agree with you! a moderate rig is a blast and can do a large majority of non buggy trails, and have a blast doing it.

Hey buddy! Glad you enjoy the videos! Yup, I'm on 35s now, including the recent video. I used to defend the d35 but am so glad I now have a d44. I would recommend sticking to 33s on the d35. The good news is you can still do a lot if wheeling on 33s.

I have been happily married for 28 years but you will notice my wife is not in most of my jeep videos...she loves cruising throught the forest but hates tippy stuff and HATES drop offs. she saw a few pictures of the trails we were going to do in Colorado and noped right out of there. Its a shame, it is so beautiful! Honestly, Black Bear pass wasn't nearly as scary as I thought it would be. the off camber rocky shelves you come down before the switch backs were actually worse than the actual switch backs. that being said, it does definitely require your full attention. The trail to Kite lake had the fewest death defying drops and was incredible. probably a good trail to start her out on. Its been so many years I can't remember the brand of the antenna mount. I probably got it from Quadratec so thats a good place to start looking. the Antenna itself is a Firestick. excellent. I don't run a spring on mine and have bent it against rocks and trees without any issues for about a decade. The 33 vs 35 inch tire question is a good one. I did a hell of a lot of wheeling on 33's and it was the Rubicon trail that finally made me want to go up to 35's. The Rubicon is doable on 33's but I found myself banging on the skid plates a lot. it was expensive to make the jump to 35's as I upgraded to a custom D44 in the rear to hande them. so the jeep is a beast now on 35's, driving over rock ledges and logs that used to be a little tougher on the 33's. at the same time, it is definately less stable now on steep climbs and ledges in Moab. My rear sway bar broke off 2 years ago before my moab trip and you can see I difference in my moab trip from 2021. I popped a lot of wheelies and scared the crap out myself a few times. Also, my jeep now with super soft suspension, no rear sway bar (soon to be remedied) 35's and a rear auto locker is a squirrelly handful on the street. So, I'd say 33's were best for all around wheeling and especially if you want to still do a lot of street driving but the 35's make it a trail beast with some trade off on steep obstacles. That being said, if money was falling off of my tree out back, I'd put highline fenders on my rig and lower it 2 inhces for better COG. Also, the auto locker is fantastic on the trail and doable on the street but i'd go with a selectable locker or back to a TrueTrack if I did a lot of street driving. I noticed that and the girls can always walk if things get too uncomfortable. They tell us exercise is good, right? Lol It’s beautiful in Colorado and many of the best views are on these types of trails, unfortunately. Our first ride out last year was Red Cone, which is listed as one of the most intimidating in Colorado, has a couple sections that are uncomfortable but they’re not bad if you’re paying attention. But it’s a long, wild ride to the bottom, if not. I will have to work her up to it and will add Kite Lake to the list…or, again, she might have to walk a bit. I’ve probably watched your TJ on 33’s in Moab vid 25+ times because it’s the best I’ve seen that represents my Jeep (mildly built on 33’s). I’ve watched a lot of videos and, to be honest, you exhibit more finesse than 99% of the Jeepers out there. While 33’s are now considered small, limiting the obstacles you can do, you make a lot of them look easy when I’m sure they’re more challenging than they appear on video. I ordered my Jeep new in 2000 with a D44, but it was delivered with a D35 and I didn’t want to refuse it and have to wait another three months, because summer would’ve been over by then. Long story short, I polished the D35 with a Super 35 kit (30 spline chromo axles/locker) and just have to stick to the milder trails. At this point I just try to keep weight down and stay out of the pedal. No issues so far. Probably won’t be running 35’s due to this and also the fact that we aren’t spring chickens anymore, but your observations on going bigger are interesting. It’s a series of trade offs. Quadratec has the firestick antenna but is out of stock on the mount and/or the tuned antenna kits, so I’ll have to contact them for expected availability. glad you enjoyed! no, i dont' run beadlocks. on this trip I ran about 12 psi but at moab I run around 10 psi. I run narrow rims, which I think helps keep the tire on the bead better. i have never lost a bead.

It's hard to describe the peace I feel out in these parts. Can't wait for my next trip.

I added an electric chainsaw to the equipment, and I always have an axe.

Thanks, my computer took a dump so I am delayed putting it together. in 2022 we mixed it up and went to Colorado instead of Moab. What an incredible trip! I'll try to get it done soon. we will be heading back to Moab this year, in the fall!

yes, I used C10 rear links front and back. otherwise the tires rubbed the chassis. I have another one of these with smaller tires that runs the standard C10 links front on front, rear on rear.
