This method is easier and quicker than other methods kzfaq.info/get/bejne/er93l9l9npO0Y2Q.html. It's also easily adapted for tying the ABK on vertical line (place the back of your hand against the hanging line, take the line below your hand and wrap it twice around, then reach behind to pick up the loop on the back of your hand and bring it around to the front and feed the bight through the main opening). Sorry, I don't have a video to make it easier to understand. Cheers

Thanks for the input, I've seen that method before just never tried to tie it like that personally. It's still pretty fast if you are used to tying it like this, and since this is the method that I originally learned I've stuck with it!

@OutsiderOG
@OutsiderOG Жыл бұрын
not to be a back seat teacher or anything because you are a good climber and I love how smooth you are with your movements and the way your spur so good job, only thing I would recommend is getting use to having ur climbing line lower than your lanyard, especially when chunking down.. You climbing line should be close to your knees and your steel core should be the closest thing to the saw blade. Keep up the good work and stay safe my friend.
@FreshCoastProductions
@FreshCoastProductions Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice, I definitely agree! When chunking down my climb line is usually waist height or slightly above if I take all the slack out of the system and It still allows me to comfortably and safely cut around upper stomach-chest height. I'll have to play around with some different setups this summer and see what I can come up with

Enjoyed your video. But, as slow and careful as you go you are still putting yourself in danger. There is a reason we cut branches clean to the spar. There is a reason to stand straight legged leaning out on our spurs. There are reasons for not using a GriGri as your sole climbing line attender in tree work....get yourself a ZigZag, Rope Runner, Unicender, or Akimbo. Use the best equipment and trust it using recure safe practices. JMHO
@FreshCoastProductions
@FreshCoastProductions Жыл бұрын
Thank you, I appreciate the input! I'm well aware of the reasoning behind all of the mentioned topics, however these trees were super soft and my spurs sharp! If I feel like I even have the slightest chance of gaffing out (which I have yet to do over the last 7 years of climbing) or getting hurt then I cut them off. Or if I have any serious rigging to do, because it seems like if there's even one left on the tree my rope will find it and wrap itself around it about 10 times then I have to go down and untangle it lol Also I plan on buying a zigzag this summer so I can have the option to do some controlled swinging if needed while aloft. I feel the grigri is more then safe in the manner that it is being used for my climbing, it's never been shock loaded. But in theory if I did, it should hold since that is what it was designed for in rock climbing. Yeah the ropes a completely different, but I've seen videos of people falling 20-30 foot on the side of a few thousand foot cliff on them devices! If I ever did fall it would only be 1-2' at most, think I'd be alright 😎

@FreshCoastProductions
@FreshCoastProductions Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes that would hurt, I usually cut them off if I have a bunch of rigging to do or if I'm climbing hardwood because of that reason. I have yet to gaff out 7 years into climbing knock on wood lol
