Remove the air filter cover and spray some brake cleaner into the carburetor before starting. No pumping with the pedal, choke pulled. Brake cleaner is more ignitable than gasoline in cold temperatures.

Why German cars remained 6V for so long beats me! By early 50s, British and American cars were 12 V.

Flooded out. My father nearly always made the same mistake. The only thing you can do now is to ask for the wife and kids to push the car. Or to let it roll off a slope.

Spark plugs might have become wet caused by the prolonged starting.
@classic_opel5 ай бұрын
It sounds like heavy misfiring, maybe timing , wires or spark plug problems ? Probably that is why it is starting so slow.
@thoughtlessasmr49774 ай бұрын
Its running quite okey i think the video makes it sound worse. But i do think it has gotten worse since summer. , it needs to warm up before it gets power to drive. drove it a lot in the summer no problem, before that it sat outside probably for years. I will do a Quick tune up for next season, plugs oil filter carbclean and maybe watch over the timing (for the first time) and hope it runs a better. But hevy missfiring i would not say really.

Hi. Too much pumping fuel with the pedal will cause wet sparkplugs. 🤷♂️ Dignition on, Choke fully pulled and only 3 times pump. And give the starter after 10 seconds starting enough time to recover. Like a minute. And after the machine is running you should drive directly. Otherwise the car will use much more fuel during standing, until the engine gets warm. A bit fuel runs also down the cylinderwalls into the oil bath. Even new cars have this always. The fuel makes the motoroil thin. Its like a thinner and oil viscosity can be reduced. I recommend you to always drive directly. The other question is: why to drive an oldtimer in such a bad wet weather. I would never use it during winter and i would park it in a garage during these cold and wet times. My oldtimers see only sunshine and dry weather. Mostly i m driving my newer car through the everyday. Greetings Oliver

Hi. I drive my cars no matter what weather it ism and they have survived so far, they can make it a bit longer. Cant be driven direct because when its cold the engine needs to heat up so the carb can supply fuel. But yes the starter needs longer breaks, but could not for the sake of the video👍

Thanks for your reply. What's the longest it's taken to start on a freezing cold morning? Do you ever try starting it without any choke? What's it like pulling up a really steep hill with a cold engine?
@thoughtlessasmr49776 ай бұрын
15 min max, need to let the starter cool down. I do always need the choke. When the engine is cold it runs bad, needs a lot of fuel and the carb cant handle it until its up to temp, so i could not run up a hill until its up to temp. (Also my carb probably need a good clean)

How long does it usually take to start on freezing cold mornings? Does it take longer when it hasn't been used for several days? How much choke does it need usually?
@thoughtlessasmr49776 ай бұрын
@@robinprice4877 When the oil is cold it takes more power to turn around, 6v turns pretty slow. So when it is -10 it takes about 5-10 min to make it start. Often need choke until it starts and goes up in temp. In this video it was hard.
