The conclusion kicks in pretty hard. Every business should be in direct contact with customers and ask them what they want. But the thing is.. This is wayy harder when doing high tech than when making couches. Commodore was a company that survived almost 20 years of insane high speed development, where the rules changed every 12 months.

I typically don't feel bad for people working in tech getting laid off, but having read about how commodore UK handled things, even from back in the calculator days, it is actually pretty sad. They were an exemplary bunch.

Thanks, Bill, now I immediately heard "Snootchies-bootchies, lil' noonchies!" from the instantly-cancelled "Clerks: the Animated Series". XD

It must have been awesome to have been there back in the day. Amiga was certainly one of the most exotic hardware projects to have come out of the 1980's. You could also have been stuck at IBM designing printer ports or something, or writing code in MUMPS. Amiga, and most stuff that went on at Atari and Commodore, was the stuff of legend. This guy seems to be all talk, though. I'm gonna do this, I'm gonna do that. What was it again, oh yeah repair my old Amiga's.. someday. There's people that talk, and there's people that do.

Hey, TGM, if you haven't bought an OSSC yet, there's been a lot of new options depending on your budget. If you're willing to build it, for under $100 you can make a VERY good one using a GBS-8200, ESP32, and a couple other components. You also have the OSSC Pro and RetroTink 5x Pro in the $350 range, and if you're really feeling fancy, there's the $750 RetroTink 4k.

The capabilities of the Amiga in terms of games really did not become apparent until the 21st century.

By March of 1990, they should have been finishing up the 3rd custom chipset for the Amiga. It is a disgrace that in 1990, the original chipset was largely unchanged with only minor upgrades over the 5 years.

Wow! I'm very late to this vid post. Paul Montgomery was my brother-in-law, and VP of NewTek with CEO Tim Jenison. Met Kiki once. Will Wheaton also worked there for a time, and he has a bit on YT, talking about the Toaster back in the day. Brad Carvey (Dana's brother) also worked there I think. I was over at Paul's home back in '86 when the Amiga bug really bit him, and attended a few of his F.A.U.G metings up in Palo Alto Hyatt. I'm sure Paul would have been happy to know that there are people still having fun with this vintage product, and his later Play Inc product, Trinity. But he was a really a great guy, and we still miss him a lot. Love your video!

During the 80s and 90s and even now, the IBM PCs and compatibles had 90+% of market share of computers because of the brand of IBM. Commodore wasn't the only one going bankrupt. Atari also went bankrupt and even Apple was about to go bankrupt before Steve Jobs returned to Apple. I don't think there was anything Commodore or Atari could do. The IBM brand was too strong and all the software developers latched onto PCs. Video games wasn't enough to keep Commodore and Atari going.

What a wonderful interview. It was all quite seat of your pants back then eh? Mitchy was a real mover., pulling the strings to get them to make a machine, so his wonderful singing voice could be heard world-wide. Seriously, I agree, it would be great to see more people making NEW games on the Amiga. Im up for it!

Yes Amiga was behind PC regarding resolutions. But why? That is the question... bad decisions. I do not blame the developers there. The decisions were done by incompetent managers

3.1 was the last AmigaOS I have used decades ago. These are pretty neat updates, and I am amazed someone bothered to release this. I wish I still had my A1200 😢

great video bringing back some bittersweet memories of those days of early digitizing techs and tricks using a plain A500 with not so much memory and the Digiview device ... 😞 when i got mine in or around the year 1990, there was also a little but very useful presentation software (on a single floppy disk) bundled in the package, called Elan Performer ... didn't have the best of interfaces but it wasn't bad at all either ... one could use that simple but very useful program to splice all kinds of images that the Amiga could handle and create show and tell sessions for example ... it could also 'desplice' or break and disjoint frames of an already finished animation if needed and use any frame(s) individually ... and it also did a lot more of course ... it's something that could actually come in handy even today for some small to medium size projects ... both EP and Digipaint are very great yet underrated programs for the Amiga imo ... Digipaint's interface was a little too difficult to get used to at first ... but once one learned how to work with it, then it could do certain small but important tricks that not even DeluxePaint could do really ... i used both together very effectively for a while back in the day ... www.computinghistory.org.uk/det/27047/Elan-Performer/

WTH!!!!! Crazy!!! This was 7 years ago and this is the first time Ive seen this. Very informative. Unfortunately the Amiga PCB Explorer doesnt have anything on the 1000 or 2000. Anyone aware of a web site that shows the circuit path for a 1000 and 2000?
