All the lore post the Activision acquisition is non-canon to me. Theramore never fell. Arthas was never slain. Varian, Tirion, Cairne, Vol'jin, Garrosh, Saurfang, Rhonin, Ysera, Neltharion, all of them are still alive in my forever frozen version of WoW's lore. I stopped playing for good in legion, so there's probably a lot more characters I could add to that list too. The true villains of the Warcraft universe needing slaying were always the burning legion and the old gods, Idk why Blizzard ever chose to stray so far from that narrative. Arthas and Deathwing both deserved their own redemption arcs in Wrath and Cata, and we shoulda joined forces with them to conquer the true foes of Azeroth. As someone who's read several of the Warcraft books and fell in love with all these characters, that's my ideal WoW storyline.
