Why is this woman talking a mile a minute? She's talking so fast, I can barely understand her.

Thank you for the stimulating presentation. An interesting follow up would be Simon Schaffer's documentary, Mechanical Marvels, for the mechanics & engineering side of things.

Despite Russ's association with decades of This Old House and The New Yankee Workshop as a home renovator and woodworker, it's apparent that he was most excited about growing things and was really a gardener. Great segment of his Nantucket home and garden, and most sadly, as of June 19, 2024, is a plot of land that will not be nurtured by him anymore! Rest in peace Russ. You will be missed!

I went to Nantucket for the first time over the summer not too long ago to do research as my school had a base there. When I tell you everything looks it’s straight out of a movie. It has this whimsical charm to it. The flower petals fall in the street, the local shops are cute, the houses are unique but at the same time traditional and unified…I felt like I was an extra for Hallmark.😭🥹very beautiful indeed.

This was a remarkable history. Thank you to Nantucket history for bringing Janet - we have a home just across the way in Chatham and I'm very grateful for all the knowledge.

There's a great film that is based on Nantucket whaling and Herman Melville's story about the white whale called "In The Heart Of The Sea", from 2015, from the same actor that play Thor in the Marvell movies. I think he did a better job in the latter films, and his accent sound a bit funny and "forced", but Brendan Gleeson does a good job of the tired old drinker that tells the tale to Melville. "There's she blows!", I've tried several times to understand what it is they're saying when the hunt is over and the whale start spewing out blood from the blowhole, since I don't have subtitles for that movie. (Edit: Figured it out: "Chimney's afire!") Perhaps some day I can visit Nantucket, I'm planning a "food pilgrimage" to USA before I die. A life time of Norwegian food, will make that an adventure, and I'll probably save money just by eating street food in USA a few weeks instead of going to the grocery store at home.

I strongly disagree. Like it or not, this is history. It’s not some thing that should be celebrated but it’s also not some thing that should be forgotten.

I recently discovered I had 17th century relatives who settled there. I read something about one of them being a disruptive Baptist, and I thought that was weird, but passed right by. Now I’m curious!
