You don't need to use the clutch, except to put it in gear from Neutral, or to change to Reverse or Lo. It was not marketed as a manual, as people were tired of manual transmissions by then. You are supposed to drive it as a 2 speed automatic.

i believe this is 1946-1948 this seems to be a limousine--chryslers and even some dodge limos were made- thousands --mainly de sotos--were used as taxis

This is probably a first series 1949 DeSoto sold from January 49 until spring 49 win the second series of Chrysler products came out, the ones we recognized as 1949 models.

I dunno. DeSoto, Hudson, Packard, Nash around this time period, I look back now as see them as extraordinary works of rolling art. They were the epitome of engineering, design, utility, etc., Planned obsolescence was the most hideous, wasteful toxic madness ever unleashed on mankind. There should have been laws. So much of earth thrown into the rubbish. We have the same sickness in every car made today. Most of the earth's wealth winding up in junk yards.

@davidfluck14703 жыл бұрын
It could possibly be a 1949 DeSoto because the "real" 1949 DeSotos, called the second series, didn't appear to the public until March of that year. Until then, the post-war 1946-1948 DeSotos were continued and titled as early but legal 1949 automobiles until the second series appeared. The serial numbers for the first series 1949 DeSotos run from 5948453 to 5962601, 15253 units for the Custom series.
