Good video, just wondering why you didn't make the Nov in one piece instead of all the pieces.... that's just more welds on inside from the outside that you can do nothing about.... I'm about to do this same repair. I'm going to try to video it. Hopefully.

Is regular primer considered a sealer or is it different?🙏🏽
@bpbrestorations2093Ай бұрын
The sealer we use is also a 2k primer, you can thin it 20% with reducer to make a sealer. So yes some primers are sealers also, but not all. A sealer is more thin so it lays out flat with little to no dusting or orange peel so your basecoat will lay out slicker.
@Mark-um3hmАй бұрын
Do they sell a sealer in a spray can? I’m doing rain guards, and a spoiler kit. I’m in the scuffing stage. I was going to put adhesion promoter, then use a 2K primer I have in a spray can? Is that sufficient, or do I need some kind of sealer?
@bpbrestorations2093Ай бұрын
2k primer will work if it's smooth enough, out of a can it should be fine

I have a question this is now my second car I’ve had to have panels replaced and painted from an accident. I had them both repaired at caliber collision, not sure if your familiar with them but they get there panels and bumpers from a place called Keystone. Both times I’ve had to have them repainted because of the paint just peeling off. They always want to blame it on keystone. Don’t you think they would know how to prep those parts properly like you do or do you think they’re just taking short cuts. They’re supposed to be professionals and do it right the first time I would think.
@bpbrestorations2093Ай бұрын
Definitely not a keystone problem. Peeling paint 99% of the time is improper prep or didn't clean well enough prior to paint/sealer. Or not following the TDS sheets and letting their sealer set to long before they put on their basecoat on.

Great video. Would love to see the finish product. I do have a question. I used the upol 3253 primer.. and I was told that it’s a direct to metal primer. So when I follow people’s videos it is kind of hard because type all use epoxy primer first and then the 2k primer before sealer or paint.. when I’m sanding I hit metal instead of epoxy primer. I was also told that you cant put body filler over the upol primer so do I have to sand those spots back down to bare metal in order to use body filler
@bpbrestorations2093Ай бұрын
You can use a skim coat over the primer if it is prepped properly with 80/180 grit, and then reprime with the 2253

Can't beat Iwatas. I really like the LPH400 especially for clear. I lays it down slick effortlessly. And very low overspray. Good for DIY and good for begginers because of how easy it sprays. It will make you look like a pro😁 In the end its all about experience, prep, and knowing your materials and conditions. Any gun can spray well if you know how to use it. Very nice work and info👍

@@bpbrestorations2093 today I sanded back the affected area and applied quality primer and base coated the whole bumper again. Clear coated to finish (slight orange peel but I'm not a pro yet and went for the factory look lol that's what I tell myself anyway) and happy with my result. I also used a heat gun between coats to ensure warm surface and flash off was quicker before any runs could propagate. I think the combo of temp and a poorly primed surface created a surface which didn't adhere well and I over compensated to try and get the coverage even on a cool day.
