Awwww!! I def want to become a vet tech! Or bet assistant. The only thing holding my thoughts back is the pay 💔. But i’d love to do it for the animals.

The pay is honestly not that great. But if it’s something you’re passionate about go for it! Maybe consider a vet hospital they tend to pay more than vet clinics.

I hated being a Vet Tech. I worked in the field for 2 years. The places I've worked at were toxic as all hell, clients are ridiculous, doctors flip out on you for their own mistakes, etc.

Sorry that you had such an awful experience. I hated being a tech when I first started at a toxic clinic as well. It’s gotten a lot better since finding my “unicorn” clinic.

I worked at a hospital that had so much drama. All from one vet tech and way too many managers. The entire hospital staff was women except for 2 of many vets. It was a shit show.

Not at all! I recommend volunteering at a clinic or working at a vet clinic before going to school to be a tech just to see what it’s like working with animals everyday but it’s definitely not mandatory.

I tell everyone to stay in the kennel. No clients and you get to work with animals all day without the headache. Plus, they make about the same.

Kennel techs where I live make minimum wage... CVTs are making ~$20 plus at my job. But I work in emergency and critical care so it’s a little higher than general practice

In Ireland Veterinary Nurses which is the European equivalent to Vet Techs, when I graduate I’ll be getting paid around €18,000 - €20,000 a year. The maximum I can get paid will probably be around €32,000This does not include the annual membership of the Veterinary Council of Ireland or the Irish Veterinary Nursing Association. It depends on what vet you work in but some do include the CPD courses which in Ireland you have to do 8 per year. In Ireland it only became a profession in 2005 under the Veterinary Act of 2005. So it is a fairly new profession however I do think that the public don’t understand how much we do and hopefully one day we’ll be recognised and paid what we deserve

I received a notification for your comment yet I don’t see it? Did you delete it? Eh I’m gonna reply anyway. Yes it’s full of puss but literally NOTHING got on my hands. I wasn’t in a sterile field, I wasn’t touching it with my bare hands so it’s ok. I can assure you that my hands were washed properly after cutting it open & so were the tools that were used✨

I know what I'm getting into , however I do thank you for the extra insight. I've worked as a kennel tech before and oddly all the things that the dogs did never made me sick or queasy 🤣🤣 I'm just a weirdo or I have a strong stomach for these things. Again thank you for telling use this , it's very helpful ❣️

Paws Not Claws Not necessarily. Some techs that have been working for a certain amount of time (ex 15 yrs) can actually get paid more then Certified techs.

Savannah Will It depends on the price of living in your area. Cali is gonna pay their techs more because the price of groceries, gas, rent & etc is extremely high. However that “decent” wage isn’t much. Compared to human nurses techs are paid peanuts.

Did you do a vet tech program? I have looked into doing the San Juan college online vet tech program, it seems to be highly rated. Do you think it's even worth going to school for this? It seems like it is possible to work your way up without a degree.
