I come from a well off, happy family, I’m doing a PhD in cancer research, I’ve incredibly supportive friends around me, I’ve been prescribed diazepam for anxiety that I take a couple times a week that I’d be completely agoraphobic without. I listed the above personal details because it’s worth saying I come from an incredibly privileged stress free upbringing with good future prospects and lots of reasons to be happy. Circumstances have still made me barely able to cope at times. If I was missing any of these privileges, fragmented family, limited prospects/criminal record, poor network of friends who were maybe addicts too, I can’t imagine how I’d deal other than wanting to numb these feelings the only way I knew how. It’s cruel for society to be fine with me and view someone like Levi as a failure. It’s our society that’s failed him and we should be ashamed.

I have a muscular pain condition and I sometimes take half a 5 mg valium to sleep at night, and the next day I usually feel quite tired and out of it. I cannot imagine what it would feel like to take 20 pills. Very depressing

they gave me 25mg of valium in hospital, I had a psychotic break, got up out of bed when I couldn't walk due to muscle spasms, stole an old lady's wheely walker from hospital, got in a taxi, assaulted the driver after 2km, hitch hiked another 20km to where my car had been left when the ambulance came to get me and then drove myself back to hospital. Afterwards I was talking to my mother, telling her what had happened, casting myself as the victim, which in my mind I was. I told her it was liberating to know all I had to do to stop the pain was swerve onto the other side of the road into an oncoming semi trailer. So anyway I have it on my medical records that I'm ALERGIC to valium. If you want to take that shite, that's your business. Benzos, like most drugs, effect different people, with different brain chemistries, in different ways. Their effect on me is terrifying.
