I grew up in Manchester in the 90s and we had a radio show with DJ Stu Allan - he'd play all varieties of house, trance, techno, rave, jungle, drum and bass, happy hardcore and dutch style hardcore - been a fan of the music ever since. Started making tunes in my teens on an Atari ST and later PC and enjoy messing around and seeing what ideas can turn into :)

@@hardcorescm what synth do you use for the kick, or is it a sample?

@@skorch9094 It would have been a synth but I don't know specifically which VST this was as I made it 2012 and don't have the files anymore. I normally use synths for my kicks as i like to modulate them and change things through out the track. I use Retrologue, Massive, FM8, Absynth and others to make the base kick patch then route through various eqs and distortions, Sometimes loads - somtimes just one or two. @@hardcorescm Haha sick. You should look into some more aggressive stuff. Have you heard about Frenchcore? It's a bit like a more aggressive version of UK Hardcore and it's been blowing up the last 6 years or so. Very energetic music and a good niche to be in.

@@hardcorescm a great freebie for hardcore kicks is Noisie by Odosynths. Dedicated pitch mod envelope, tons of curves, 2 filters with envelopes. A modulation oscillator. Just open the Tronic Kick preset and set all osc to lowest octave. Great for screaming kicks!

its an acid bassline - back then (made this in 2001) it was probably a 303 emulator call rebirth - if you look up how to make a 303 acid bassline that should get you the sound

@@hardcorescm you should listen the intro video of Colin McRae Rally 2.0 a ps1 game. The music use this I thing and I love it.

the tune made me think of going down a river and id seen the canal du midi in a tv programme so i named the song after it

its a mix of hip hop type drums with synths and electronic music elements
