Also thank you for the condensed score for reading along. That's a good idea to make the sheet music accessible for following the structures without having to decipher smallest details in a super large score.

I have been struggling to figure out the best way to get score videos up on KZfaq. I see a lot of channels that post just wonderfully well-done score videos, and while I know I can't quite get to the level of hand-cropped and condensed scores like them, I'm always trying to find a workflow that lets me create the videos quickly so that I can spend more time composing! Glad this one was legible-- I'm still learning the best way, but good to know I'm on the right track!

Hello, thank you very much for uploading this stunning symphony showing an intriguingly fascinating musical language. I really enjoy experiencing a style of your own with a fascinating amalgam of different stylistic layers that don't fall apart into single sound bites, but contribute to a unique and coheseve whole. There are so many --- quite good and remarkable --- symphonies by younger composers out there on KZfaq that are promising, albeit not yet crossing the line of mere pastiches of existing styles like --- mainly --- Mahler. So, finally there's a voice of someone who already knows what his own language is like and who is able to create a new world of refreshing, exciting, unpredictable but totally convincing music full of very personal ideas and colors! Your free handling of rhythm and meter, your creativity with really interesting orchestral choices, your harmonic richness, the interesting shapes of your thematic material... that all adds up to a characterful personality which I very much appreciate listening to. I would like to invite you --- if you may --- to my KZfaq channel where I just recently uploaded my own first symphony. I signed up as your new subscriber and am really interested in getting to know more of you! I wish you the best and send you my fondlyest greetings, Franz

Hello! Thank you so much for the thought-out comment and your very kind words. I appreciate very much when people leave such detailed feedback. I would love to stop by your channel to return the favor! At the moment I'm doing some judging on a game jam contest and then I'm out of town for a week-- I should be able to take some time to listen to your work and give feedback but if it slips under my radar please stop by and remind me! (Or email me at [email protected]). Thanks again for such a kind and effortful comment, it is really lovely to read and I very much respect the time and effort you put into it!

ahhh this is so surreal! I had no clue that you had a pretty active KZfaq channel! I remember being absolutely obsessed with the Starbound OST when the game came out. I had the soundtrack on the iPod Shuffle, and I distinctly remember pressing the voice-over button and hearing "Vast, Immortal Suns - Curtis Schweitzer" and thinking "Wow this music is so great, it's a shame this artists isn't recognizes so much" and fast forward some years, and like, you made music for freaking *Halo*!! That's so cool! Right before I was typing this, I've been trying to learn M54 on guitar and just decided to search KZfaq for your name and I am so surprised and happy that your still active. You've been a huge inspiration to me and I hope that on my journey to learn music and guitar, I may be able to step into more in depth compositions like the ones you make. (As a side question, if you remember that M54 piece from Starbound... how exactly do you master the timing? I'm still pretty new to guitar, and the piece is so delicate and slow that I struggle timing the notes properly. Is there even a BPM to reference? or did you play by feel?)
@CurtisSchweitzerКүн бұрын
@@jeremiahandrews4841 Hey! Glad you found me here-- thanks for the kind words! Yeah M54 is not governed by a strict tempo. Everything is very rubato and expressive- there isn’t a “right” way to play it. Just put your own emotions into the performance! :) I originally recorded it straight into the DAW in a single take, just feeling it, so you should just play it the way that feels best to you.

The Curtis Deluxe In all seriousness, The Mind is a Shadow. The journey of an aging musician coming to terms with memory loss and the struggle that she can only express through creating music. The melancholy and frustration of losing the memories she held dear. Writing down the ones she can recall. Learning to enjoy what she has left while holding on to what makes her, her. Slowly understanding that she can create new ones, and recall them, with the help of her music.

JOTTED THOUGHTS: measure 1 Suspense, beauty, curiosity, grand reveal, journey beginning(?), majesty, the music is breathing in & out, measure 32 we’re soaring high! … we’re in the sky now, passed through dark clouds and found a secret beauty within, it’s overwhelming at first but now we are taking in the view and shining ourselves … it feels as though we are harmonious with this ethereal vista … measure 65 we begin to reflect on the journey, the experiences are now getting to us but where we are now has made it worth it … measure 75, we find peace and can rest our mind, now that we are where we are TITLE IDEAS: “Journey to Rapture,” “The Limenavis”/“Bird of the Threshold,” “To Find Serenity”

Lovely track. At first I pictured a vast ocean. Then I felt like I was going through little passages underwater. It gave me a 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea vibe. But also, it seemed to show the passage of time. It felt as if the ocean was growing old and reliving memories. Or at least that's how my weird brain worked. These names popped up as I listened. Child of the Sea Aquarium's Clock (Aquarian Clock?) Life Cycle of the Sea The Sea Remembers The Burial at Sea Thanks, Curtis.

@CurtisSchweitzer12 күн бұрын
This is a very touching comment- thank you very much for that- it makes my heart sing. :) Dynamics are like anything else- a story. Stories have a beginning, middle, and end, so I try to layer the “story” over the arc of the line. It helps when everything is written as its own line- when I can manage that, the dynamics write themselves. :) Looking forward to *your* next release!

Berlin, Cinesamples, EastWest, Performance Samples (both Vista and Pacific), JXL Brass (aka Tom Holkenborg Brass), SPJB Percussion from Spitfire, Spitfire Symphony Orchestra, and a few others. Not sure exactly which families got which libraries, but typically I layer Berlin Symphonic with Pacific, use JXL Brass for the lead brass stuff and use Berlin Brass for the chord work, winds are *usually* from Cinesamples, but I mix it up to keep it interesting.

hey Curtis this is Kade, I wanted to let you know how excited i am about listening to your album Vespers. I have a couple of other questions as well as a message for sharing my support to your work. questions: 1. How Many Albums do you plan to release each year? 2. what do love about releasing your own music along with video game scores? 3. are you planning on releasing your track Promethean Anthem as a single or an album someday? thank you for sharing your music into the world. you style really is moving and useful for background while i'm play writing, gaming and they help with my emotions.
@CurtisSchweitzer2 ай бұрын
Hi Kade-- I don't really plan a number for each year, usually it is 1 or 2 with maybe a soundtrack or 2 thrown in there depending on what work I end up getting. Usually the non soundtrack albums are work that I do in-between big client work like a game soundtrack, and I usually release them as a means of keeping myself actually finishing things and putting them out there. At the moment I have no plans to release Promethean Anthem on an albums-- I don't really have a place where it fits, but I will definitely keep it up here on YT! Thanks for your support! It means a lot to me.

My family went on a lot of road trips when I was about 12-13, and sometimes we'd drive for 9 or 10 hours at a time. I had about 15 songs of the Starbound soundtrack downloaded, and I'd just listen to them on repeat for the whole ride. I dunno man, my head's still been fried from the short-term dopamine feedback loop but there's something about the stuff you make that just fills my whole brain and when I'm listening to it I don't need to think about anything else. Anyway I used to be in an orchestral band in high school and this one sounds like the one song the director assigns for the last concert of the year that everyone does their best to get perfect even if they're not usually that into it because everyone can just feel how it's supposed to be yknow? And then they keep the memory of it years later. I don't know about names but I'm glad it's here.

This composition sounds almost like what you would hear during a fantasy film montage where an ancient city is destroyed, setting its people wandering, some as mercenaries, some as refugees, some as seekers of revenge. Broken, uncertain, making their way in a foreign land, and haunted by a past they can never reclaim, they try to hold together their lives with their loved ones despite what (and who) is missing. In that case, I would simply suggest naming it after the town itself. But I do not know what that name is.
