Martins english was very good. Unlike petter solberg “its not the fart that kills, its the smell”. I cant believe he said that on international tv. What he ment to say was “its not the speed that kills, its when you crash”.

I remember watching this on TV back in the day, so exciting watching more or less standard-looking cars, before commercialism took over.

Wauv... a rare display of Schanche behaving.. he must've had a stern warning from the officials. There is another video from the same track, where he flies off in the first corner, and slams the rear of the car into the bank

Why does Martins RS200 looks so ramshackle? like it's about to fall to pieces at any moment.

A Ford Escort, a Volvo 300 series, two Audi Quattros - and then a VW Beetle.... (Yeah, I know that Beetle was likely souped up like hell (Transporter chassis and engine possibly?), but still....)

You can see how these cars are a step closer to the modern cars, more balanced in corners, sequential box, rule maker meddling, similar designs, slightly less ragged and taking similar lines. 70s, 80s, 90s were the heyday both in crazy engineering and wild racing.

RIP Michael , back in the late 80s early90s he took me from the Stanwick Arms to his farm at midnight on a saturday night to look at the bodywork on his 6r4 , I was more mechanical so knocked him back. You win some you loose some. top fella and unbelievable times with him and his next door neighbour mark rennison.

Michael and Steve, i looked after both their 6R4s, Michael my best friend for decades endured 32 years of illness hence his untimely retirement. His father George and the Shield family helped propel RALLYX to where it is today. Michael and Mark Rennison lived 1 mile apart. Croft Circuit was the fastest track out there and it is where my 3 friends battled it out. There are no friends on track but, as Steve used to say 'let me tell you' .... they left all that on the track, eventually. RallyX of the eighties will never be surpassed, no restrictors, do what you want! Theres nothing like a full grid of Group Bs waiting for the light. InterNations Cup Croft 87! Love you Michael x🏁

So today the Rallycross grapevine is aglow with the sad news of the untimely passing of Mike Shield. I got on well with Mike, he was always a happy chappy and pleased to see you, 57 is far too young for this. In 1989 aged just 23 Mike won the honour of becoming the youngest British Champion, holding that notable achievement for a good 25 years. It was a shame that he didn't remain in the sport, I'll admit that I was disappointed not to see him much after he stopped Rallycrossing, a terrific competitor missed by the sport...as is the circuit he and his family then owned. I think that most Rallycrossers mourn the loss of that venue to us much as we shall mourn the loss of such a great racer.

Whoever constructed the ZX's front right suspension, amazing job. That was a good ol' knockout attempt by Schance but the Citroen resisted.
