I feel sorry for you being had negative experience with the Fundis... most of them they are quite polite and make themselves trustworthy before starting the work, and later, they become vampires and leave disaster with you.. Im about to start building in Kenya and i experienced many conning trials but i avoided them all, im in the designing process now and planned each and every step ahead... i have taken enough time to educate myself about the construction materials, stages, names, pros and cons of each material... If you are in diaspora, i would like to give you some tips for construction: 1.please dont delegate relatives or friends to build your lifetime house. you will lose the house and the freind/relative. 2.Try to find reliable and genuine company, sign a contract, read the contract well and put options that work for your favor and makes you avoid any possible risks. 3. Dont sign one contract for the whole construction work, separate the contracts into 4. one for design, one for foundation, one for walling and one for finishing. That case, the contractors cant play their dirty game with you. 4. divide the payments into different installments and dont pay any amount in advance, create a holding account in a bank and transfer the money to it and fundi cant withdraw that amount before he finishes the agreed stage. If he refuses, let him go, you will find another one. 5. During the contract, ask the contractor to put maintenance services for what he is building in case of poor workmanship. This is very necessary for tiling, plumbing, wires. If the fundi is reliable person, he will agree. if he dont, let him go, you will find another one.
