@@aristotlekumpis7095 You can use Starry Night Pro and Pro Plus (the laptop version of Sky Safari for Windows or Mac OS) to connect with and control your mount. You can also use Stellarium (FREE) to get that "planetarium-like" feel. Personally, my favorite these days is the phone experience when viewing. The last thing I want to deal with is lugging around my laptop.

It was the Move Shoot Move Triadapter. It came along with a Bluetooth button. If you already have a phone mount there are a ton of those Bluetooth things on Amazon for cheap. They all work the same. Search for “Bluetooth remote shutter”, and you will find them.

What was your impression of the 20x80 on the Regal? I'm reading reviews that it's too wobbly to hold them well for stargazing.
@CosmosSafari
@CosmosSafari 13 күн бұрын
I think it depends on your height. I am not very tall, so for me I can keep the tripod relatively short and don’t extend it to the max. As a result, it is more stable than it would be if you are taller. I didn’t have any issues. There is always a heavier duty tripod you could use. The question you need to ask is it as portable? I think the Regal strikes a nice balance for price/portability/capability.
@anthonyboisvert9857
@anthonyboisvert9857 13 күн бұрын
@@CosmosSafari Thanks for your reply! I was referring to the head capacity to hold 7.5 pounds binoculars + potentially a phone. Does it work well or did you feel like it was pushing the tripod's capacity to its limit? Good job on the channel!
@CosmosSafari
@CosmosSafari 5 күн бұрын
@@anthonyboisvert9857 I didn't know an answer to your question and didn't want to rely on my memory, so I tested the Regal with the largest 20x80mm binos. The head capacity is sufficient in my testing and holds the binoculars in place without any issue.

So a random fact that I'm sure even Starizona doesn't realize. Their store on Oracle Rd. in Tucson is next door to a dance studio. That studio was founded by my uncle who was the oldest son of Aden & Marjorie Meinel (my grandparents). Aden is the founder of the College of Optical Sciences at the U of A and also is the founder (and 1st Director) of Kitt Peak National Observatory. Both of my grandparents were astronomers. If anyone is interested in a lot of astronomy and optics history, there's a book written about my grandparents called "With Stars in Their Eyes: The Extraordinary Lives and Enduring Genius of Aden and Marjorie Meinel". And now I use a Hyperstar with my C8. It's funny how small a world it is in Tucson when it comes to the astronomy and optics world.

So... Will there be a Hyperstar V5?
@CosmosSafari
@CosmosSafari 22 күн бұрын
Great question. I don’t have an answer for you, but from our conversation the reason for new versions has to do with limitations to previous version optical design and the ever increasing quality of modern optics. If Starizona sees at some point that their design is the limiting factor in the optical design, I am sure they would do a V5. I don’t believe that is currently the case, but they seem to take advantage of their small size to remain nimble and move forward with their design as the market continues to evolve.

I would be interested in doing live stacking at star party for public outreach. If I set up a monitor for public viewing though won’t that interfere with night vision for everyone at event?
@CosmosSafari
@CosmosSafari 23 күн бұрын
Yes, a monitor would do just that. However, the whole issue is that most people live where light pollution already makes visual observing nearly impossible. Live stacking an image and putting it on a monitor allows outreach to be done virtually anywhere. Go where the people are…

As a beginner I doubt if I should go for the Starsense 150mm Tabletop dob or Starsense Explorer 8 inch dob as the latter has an excellent score for observing DSO's, planets & moon while the 150mm tabletop version has a score of good for these objects. Also the fact that my home location is not a very sky friendly observing location due to nearby objects and light polution I have to take the scope into the car and go to a more friendly observing location. The portability of the 8 inch is more cumbersome then the 150mm tabletop dob and I can also buy the additional tabletop tripod so I am not dependent of a table 🙂 So the question is: Is a 150mm tabletop dob still suffiecient for (dimmed) DSO's & planets or should I definitely go for the 8 inch (grounded) dob?
@CosmosSafari
@CosmosSafari Ай бұрын
I personally like an 8 inch, and once you add the tripod they are comparable in size.
@prkroon
@prkroon Ай бұрын
@@CosmosSafari Thanks for the quick response. Personally I like the 6 inch version as I could put it on a table if I want to. However the weight is for me an issue (34 lbs = 15.4 kg vs 44 lbs = 20kg) if you have to carry the seperate parts from car to the observation location if this location is not nearby the parking lot. The additional tripod for the 6 inch tabletop is folded so easy to carry. The main question for me is the view of DSO's and planets. It is obvious that clarity is less in the 6 inch then in the 8 inch but will this be a remarkable issue when looking at sky objects? I do not want to blame myself afterwards that I did not buy the 8 inch instead of the 6 inch. Can you say something about this?

When I used to have an observatory I was able to leave it set up and maintain polar alignment and a computer model ready to go from nighttime observations. It was nice to slew to the sun with 1 button at any time. I cannot wait to get an observatory again. Hopefully soon 🤞

A sun finder is also a nice tool to use. Finding the sun with a telescope is not as easy as one would think. With an inexpensive Solar finder I can dial in the sun in seconds.

Celestron has one that they put on the 50mm Travel Solar Telescope. Optics on that are surprisingly decent. I wish they would sell JUST that solar finder as a stand alone product for $20 or something. It cannot cost that much given that the 50mm Travel Telescope was already a bargain.

I've got the RASA V1 & for me it's been a love hate relationship with the scope, don't get me wrong when you get it dialled in its phenomenal. However I've find bigger sensors bring bigger problems as tilt is picked up more than in a slower scope. The centre lens group is another weakness where they can come loose even if you are careful not overtightening it. Of course being the V1 mirror flop can be a real pain to. Another design feature I think they should come with is an M54 threaded adapter for full frame cameras as even the M48 ones cause a lot of vignetting so be sure your flats are good.
