Damn, as a former machine gunner in the army I always thought of plunging fire as an archaic implementation of the machine gun from ww1 days and never really thought of its use in the “artillery role” in modern day outside of the mk19 and your typical elevated defilade emplacement. This is really cool.

I agree and disagree because as a medic in the game I’ve done a lot to sway battles but then again the servers I play in are more dedicated so I can speak to much but from experience me being a medic as swayed battles in our favor because we didn’t have to keep bringing in more guys via chopper eating away at our momentum

This was incredibly awesome to me, a big part of that being being able to see whats up by interacting with the vehicle and using the binos from WITHIN the damn vehicle. This is such an important but missing feature from 99% of games out there, and its really, really hopeful to see it happening in arma's future. What id really like to see however, is a complete removal of 3rd person, not as a feature/ability, but by making the interactivity of player-vehicle 100%. Being able to use all the little windows to see whats going on around you, having mirrors work (like in arma 3 but better), its just gonna bring fun to a whole nother level. The only other game ive had this much fun with vehicles was red orchestra 2, which had fully visualized and functional interiors, it was godly.

The weirdest part of all this to me is that the exact same devs made Dayz (also on console so that’s not an excuse) which DID have a lot of these things but for some reason they’re not in reforger? I hope later on some of your suggestions get added but if not at least there’s always mods! Also wanted to add absolutely agree the whole point of having these systems is to get players to behave more true to life than just sprinting into combat getting shredded by gunfire like it’s no big deal 😂

I love the ideas especially the car, but i am very happy with the restrictive loadout, selecting different equipment for different missions, which for me would be patrol and observe on the lightest side, assault up the middle (more mags n frags) and holdout on the heavy side (more mags and medical) holdout is the only time i even wear a backpack.
@caracal3892
@caracal3892 Күн бұрын
I think the problem with prerestricted loadouts is that a developer (or worse a server admin) makes the decision of what the loadouts are. And then the question is what a realistic loadout would be for the 1989 scenario. I think the current system is more suited because players can adapt to the task whey want to do, and I think in real life combat like this there would be a lot of dynamic adjustment of what people would carry.

A big part of the issue is the broken systems in-game at the moment. Players are just starting to learn the value and utility of radios and the huge advantage they bring when properly set up on a supply source. But the broken group system leaves no room for players to explore just how much utility is being given to them. Right now you can load up a UAZ with a 180 supply, load in a ammo box, first aid kit, grab a radio (+100 supply) and set up for an attack position anywhere. You get all the ammo you could possibly need including explosives. Throw some extra launchers in the back and whatever extra guns you want. You don't need to run around with a full up sofa that just makes you a bigger target, slows you down, and costs your team valuable supply. Vehicles are worth more than just transport, but the meta hasn't shifted... yet.

I kid you not. By the time anyone finishes watching this video at the pace it is delivered and with the amount of distractions they would most likely be better and quicker of building their own shooting range in game to practice... If somebody asked me to title this video I would say "POV learning to shot the bow" This could be easily delivered in 5 minutes. Good effort but horrible delivery.

Caracal i really like your views on realism. I think this is an excellent idea towards a system thats less about "restricting the player", and more about establishing a reality of being (aka, there are rules, not restrictions). For me, a realistic stamina system, along with a few other mechanics would enhance gameplay even further. Things like terrain differences (as in marshes, paved roads, jagged rocks, steep inclines etc) would absolutely make traversing the environment a way way more interesting and varied ordeal, where stamina conservation and expenditure is an operational consideration, than a refillable (and therefore ignored) resource. That said, a bit of feedback on the channel/vids themselves: -Sometimes your vids take too long to make a point. Being more concise would be awesome. -I would like to see more structured examples, in order to make this a more clear "this is the suggestion". I think that would be useful as linkable material to devs/other discussions. Overall, this is awesome and its cool to see more people that think more of a game than a squad/battlefield level of "pew pew and nothing else".

Thanks! In most of my videos I try to get straight to the point, however in this one I wanted to first demonstrate how players go to the armory and equip. About stamina, I think so too that there should be a longer term stamina effect if players drain the stamina too fast. I think developers are shying away from this a lot since arma3, I remember the arguments about the stamina bar. However I think it was good that the developers removed the visible stamina bar in reforger so that players can "feel" the stamina more than having an exact bar visible

yes, but. most of this is already done by milsim units. in public settings it doesnt work out more often than not. all of these are valid point that people already do and adhere to in private setting where a 3rd person can not foil the fun. public servers do not allow this to be successful for this because the larger player base does not play like this and it only takes a few to ruin it. having an arbitrary stamina system like in Arma 3 would cause more issues than that it fixes. certainly with different mods could adjust their own weight on items and gear that might just break or bug out causing people to be crippled due to the hard limits. all in all none of this will likely ever fixed by BI beyond small adjustments.

Arma 4 is not coming anytime soon. Reforger is sort of like the "bones" of what Arma 4 is to be. Primary focus is on tech and system integration. It's completely playable as a game and mod integration is far improved over Arma 3. Content is much smaller scale but the modding scene is ever growing. If you want to be a part of what Arma 4 is going to be, than no better time to jump in than now.

Honestly this is the same issue for the stamina system. They've got a pretty neat little system under the hood, but the high/low range is so squashed that you barely notice the impact during play. It's like they put in the effort to make all the pieces and then got worried it would actually have an effect on how people played at the last second.

Problem is from a realistic perspective you have to prepare for what youre going to do. So if youre mainly going to drive somewhere, walk a short distance, then control a certain areas for a long period of time, then you're going to need a very heavy loadout. It kind of makes up for what video games cant and is necessary for balance. For instance in videos from Ukraine you might see a unit where one guy has a backpack full of UBGL rounds, another has a backpack full of MG rounds, the entire unit has handheld launchers, and they pass the weapons around between different people depending who needs to be shooting what and when. Video games just cant account for that. I think the War on Terror really tainted peoples minds on what real deal conventional vs conventional warfare is like. From a perspective where you're mainly acting as a police force carrying out patrol operations it makes sense why light loadouts were favored. But for a small island like Everon with two major powers fighting, you would definitely see some very heavy loadouts. WIth vanilla conflict and even servers like PBS where its vanilla with bigger player numbers the supply cost to spawn is simply too high to have a realistic kit anyway. So youre better off spawning main and driving to where you need to go. Otherwise a 6 man squad with realistic loadouts can instantly deplete an outposts supply. On servers like Arma Conflict Ive gone out with 50 ubgl rounds, 3 rpg rounds, and 8 mags for an RPK and AK47 and ended up using all of it within 30 minutes or so. If you dont carry heavy youll run out of ammo and fuck your team over.

Unfortunately, some things like teamwork have to be forced due to the lack of sophisticated ways of limiting player inventory. Obviously, as you've said, players aren't forced to work together but it is incentivized, and often times working together, especially in a pvp environment, yields better rewards than not. In a controlled environment like a unit, this problem is solved because it's completely up to the uniform and arsenal SOP. As for not sitting with your pack/gear, I think that's a bit silly, my approach would be to edit the animation for getting in with a pack vs the normal one for without a pack. Your soldier would sling their pack/weapon and set it between their legs. Obviously, this wouldn't work for the driver, but hooks on the outside of the driver's seat could accommodate this feature. There were certain vehicle mods that actually moved your pack to the floor, same with your weapon in Armed Assault. I vaguely remember that being a little mind-blowing at the time, but that was years ago.

I agree this vaulting and stashing stuff in the car system would be good additions. You said there should not be an arbitrary rule that forces players to work together. The thing is, even though I do agree you should not be forced to teamwork, I think teamwork should reward players individually, not only the team as a whole. Meaning the player should get more benefits the more he helps the team. In the current state of the game the players that least help the team are the ones who use resources the most. Why should a player be able to get ridiculously expensive gear just to hit the respawn button and waste all those points while the ones who want to help the team cant even buy a vehicle to go capture a point? Letting that kind of stuff happen is just as arbitrary as trying to limit it somehow. I don't think gam design decisions should be made with just realism in mind. But saying that limiting gear selection is just an unrealistic quick fix is just not true at all. If you worry about realism then soldiers should not be picking up any gear or vehicles they want from a base. Soldiers can't hop into any vehicle, weapon system and use medical items without proper training. Let alone choose their gear as if it was a self service buffet. You mentioned dayz and I think what it does best is to force you to work with what you have by restricting your gear. This element of gameplay is totally absent from Reforger, because you can always have the best ammo, best gun, best protection for every situation. The most fun I had playing Arma 2 in a sim/PvP setting was when we had to work around our limitations. For example having to position our only machinegunner just at the right spot for best effectiveness. That type of tactics never happens in Reforger because everyone can be a machinegunner sniper

I think over longer time the wasteful players will value not disappointing their team over individual gear, and I think players should get to that point without being forced. I made a video about this topic and will release it perhaps today or next week.

A few things: 'Realistic' load outs are just as fun as a terminator load out. I'm not a dog, but I am a coyote- I think in yips and yops Having all that gear does limit how long the whales can run, but not as much as it feels like it should. I love the vaulting weight idea, and personally enjoy the car idea, but can see how it'd be disabled on most servers.

I disagree with this, all of this is already possible in a well organized private server. In a public server if you HAD to leave your backpack and 2nd weapon in a vehicle in order to enter it would simply get stolen or some random player would drive off with it. alot of your suggestions for the game assume a level of co-operation that is very rarely found in public servers.

One idea that I've loved since my Arma 2 invasion days is for their to be this primary option for those who want to plan cool combined armed convoys, mid to long term planning and preparation, etc but also an option for those short term players who just want the bare minimum. Option 1 is as you've explained Option 2 is for at periodic intervals (every 15 mins?) for there to be a paratrooper drop that players can elect to spawn in from and parachute into the combat zone with a light paratroopers kit.
