Haha thanks mate, that’s many years of time on the water and practice. I used to cast into a wheel barrow at home as a teenager and then downsized to a bucket. Getting a cast in the right spot can be the difference between a fish and no fish sometimes so I highly recommend practicing to get it right

obviously i dont expect you to say where on the bidgee you are, but gonna do a cod trip up there in april. what general area of the river so you recommend, wanna get some big ones aa well.
@granthigginson55553 ай бұрын
Big ones can be few and far between, plenty of 50-70cm fish in the meantime though. I fish anywhere from Wantabadgery to Narrandera, depends what type of water you want. Above Wagga it’s faster flowing a clearer the further up you go, you’ll catch more troutcod and yellas up that way. The closer you get to berembed weir the water slows down and gets deeper. Then below the weir to Narrandera it’ll speed up again and is shallower so depending on the time of year you’re fishing, be careful of hitting logs in the boat especially in winter when the river is low

@granthigginson5555 cheers we are going up late April. but coming from SA so probably more likely to not go any further than hay. it's a toss up between the bidgee, Wakool, Edward type areas. although leaning towards the bidgee so we can cover more area.
@granthigginson55553 ай бұрын
@@daniel-hz8rd April is probably the best time on the bidgee. Although you’re coming from the home of the big fish in SA haha. Hay is different again, but plenty of fish
@daniel-hz8rd3 ай бұрын
@granthigginson5555 I'm the only person here who hasnt/can't catch a cod haha. so gotta go find some easier ones for my first. I think hay area will be best for travel and using the boat, yellowbelly don't really interest me, no issues at all catching them here, so it's really just a cod chase.
@granthigginson55553 ай бұрын
@@daniel-hz8rd haha first trip we ever had to SA we got 10 over a metre, 114 the smallest. Then the following 2 years went back and got nothing at all. Last year we went back and got another 7 fish but only one over a metre and 4 in the 90s. So hit and miss down there. The numbers are this way are definitely better but way smaller average. Yellas aren’t that common. I’ve probably only caught 3-4 in the last year while targeting cod

Some very accurate casting there. Excellent video. Thanks!
@granthigginson55553 ай бұрын
Thanks mate. Casting accuracy can be the difference between a fish and no fish. I started as a teenager with a baitcaster and wouldn’t cast into a wheelbarrow in the backyard. Then I’d downsize to a bucket. Did it again recently when teaching my nephew, good fun when you can’t get on the water haha

Definitely more trees down in the area near Narrandera than some other parts of the river, due to the flooding. The couple of thunderstorms in the afternoons would have got the fish biting. Good videos Grant.
@granthigginson5555 Жыл бұрын
Yeah there’s plenty of timber in some stretches there. And yes, quite a few new trees in the water still with leaves on them. Would hate to be sitting under one when it goes in.

I fished the same area yesterday for 5 hrs and didn't get a touch. That's Cod fishing for you.
@granthigginson5555 Жыл бұрын
Yeah it’s been very hit and miss. We were camping at second beach for 3 days and the lure fishing was very quiet other than this surface session one of the mornings. I tried the same stretch the following morning and only had 2 surface hits. The rest of the trip I only caught a couple on lures. Even bait fishing with the kids was slow, not many bites other than a heap of carp off the bank when we targeted them with corn. Their numbers have exploded since the floods which can’t be good.
