they will never compare to other, more functional countries. The UK and US know their neoliberal approach is bs, but they would rather kill off the poor and middle class than do what's right.

I'm not sure how ~8million immigrants since ~2000 into one of most densely populated countries on earth is a myth, surely this is a fact?

I find it very difficult to understand what Dorling is saying. There's an annoying echo and even turning up the volume doesn't help. Please Danny make your talks more accessible.

This is revelatory, even after having watched many of Prof. Harvey's lectures all the way through multiple times. He is absolutely brilliant and his explanation of economics has literally changed my life and how I see the world.

"Debt is anti-value; it's a foreclosure on the future. If the debt is not redeemed then the value is lost. Capital is mobilizing anti-value right now to promote the necessity of producing value." In other words, as far as I can tell...the more debt people have the harder they have to work to pay off that debt, and the harder they work the more they produce. Even if their wages are high they have to work harder to pay off their debts, and debt is being normalized through credit cards and the like so that people don't see it as "bad" to have debt, especially not with the credit system giving you a score based on how you handle debt; if you don't have any history of debt then your score is worse than if you do, and if you have a lot of debt that you pay off your score is better than if you have very little debt that you pay off, and with a lower score (a zero because of no debt is worse than a bad credit rating) it's harder to participate in the economy via loans for cars, houses, businesses etc. Without debt you don't have a stockmarket (which is people paying money for the right to be given more money later), you don't have people who make fortunes off of stock market gambling becoming super rich, you don't have banks investing your savings account money giving your account a % return, and on and on. Debt has become so ubiquitous and normal that it really does "promote the necessity of producing value" by driving the expansion of value production in order to keep the system from collapsing. This was a great lecture. Definitely worth saving for later.

In my opinion, there should be introduced an undergraduate and/or master's degree purely in Wildlife Conservation and Climate Change at oxford university. I was disappointed with the university's lack of environmentally-themed undergraduate courses, given our planet's state. I hope this changes by the time I do my Postgraduate degree!

There is NO climate crisis there’s a an over population crisis in africa and the developing world and causing mass migration into western nations. Maybe you should sterilise yourself and remain in your own shanty town instead of coming to the west and overburdening the environment in the U.K.?

I like Prof. Dorling's to collate the data, then present it in a meaningful way, without wagging the finger or attacking people for the way they voted. He leaves that to do amongst ourselves, but my god, this comments thread is absolutely riddled with cretins that feel attacked, and can't help themselves in throwing a hissy fit.

Hard to credit that this gentleman is an Oxford academic? I do wonder what overseas parents contemplating sending their loin fruit to study at that most prestigious institution might make of his reasoning? Echos of Chomsky I suspect. Copious fact accumulation but somehow the conclusions are minus that essential ingredient, common sense.

Really every member country should have gone full Monty & joined the Euro from the launch. Although with hindsight maybe not Greece. Thatcher individualized Britain 40 years ago. Britain is an embarrassment internationally. All sentimentality for orange marmalade, real bacon , the Sunday Post and Galaxy chocolate aside, I´m glad I left 30 years ago. Maybe Britain should join the United States ?

we won one world cup , the germans have won 3 nations cups , three world cups and every time we play germany our small minded supporters, mainly southern english, sing ' two world wars and one world cup. It embarrasses me no end , and others no doubt, and like many others we don't watch our national team play any more.
