The whole point of multiple gears is so you actually use them a lot. The whole point of mounting the engine mid chassis is so you SLOW DOWN before a turn. The whole point of rubber tires is so you spin and slide those tires. You're supposed to be at half throttle midway around a corner turn. You're riding this thing as if it's a shopping trolley. Too late at braking. Too late a acceleration. Too much lean over. Zero wheelspin when exiting corners. Etc...

This is the same bike I’m taking my MSF course on, right now! Truly wonderful, and a great bike to get started on if you’ve never ridden!

I had a DR250SH in Tokyo for two years in the early '90s. It was a 1990 model. 29 BHP at the crank, very light. It doesn't have a battery. Pretty fast. I wish I still had it. Nick

So in my opinion the bike should have went to idle in the time this video took. I have a stock one and it takes like 30 seconds. I think that your fuel ratio is off, my guess is that it’s lean. I would not idle this bike for long. Once you are on the gas you eliminate the lean condition. I noticed a little lean miss backfire. But any way great sound I am doing the same think.

I currently have a 650 but I want one of the smaller bikes for off road used to ride a pe 175 and they're awesome but finding one in decent shape is difficult. I do run my 650 off road but it's not as easy to manage as the smaller displacement bikes and that's why I want one.

I had a '91 Japanese-spec version of this bike. It didn't have an electric starter and was equipped with inverted forks. I found the ergonomics not really to my liking. It had too much of a swayback feel to it. I raised the forks, had the seat cut. I forget by how much and then I put on a McGrath-bend Renthal handlebar. Bingo! It was perfect for me. I used it a little bit off-road and even on a motocross track but it was mostly a commuter/leisure bike. It was a great bike. I loved the motor which was understandable since I came off a Serow 225. When I first got it, I had difficulty starting it. I had to use the compression release a lot but as time went on, I got the hang of it.

These are actually built in Japan, as opposed to the typical Z900, which is built in Thailand. Big reason for the price difference and quality of finish.

I just bought a 1993 DR250s with electric start. Other than the Clymer manual it’s difficult to find information on them. It was $1100 in good shape and felt great on the test ride. Other than the engine it shares a lot of parts with the DR350. The carb is the same with slightly different jetting. The pumper carb is supposed to be much better but like you said, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. I may see if a DR200 tank will fit it for the extra gallon of gas without loosing the 90’s look.
@doccops6 ай бұрын
I had both at one point, the 250 is a nice bike, smoother, but the 350 just has a lot more torque and low end power. The 250 runs about 1000 rpm more in 6th, so not so relaxed on the road.

Hey - nice video; wonder if you still have this bike. After driving on gravelled surface, do you see any dints and marks on the chrome pipes facing the front wheel? How often do you find yourself cleaning those front of pipes for road stains?

Well I had a couple of those Nighthawk 700s best bike ever made don't change the exhaust system leave it stock same thing with the intake leave it stock just put a oil filter in there air filter that you spray the oil in they're wonderful the best thing you can do for that bike is to put a lay down bar on the on the bike that's the only thing you really need to do it'll save you money because that bike has a tendency of scraping the case covers sometimes when you're really low and especially if you get the nice black Nerf Bar it looks good it's tight close to the case covers and actually you can put some feet rest on that for a long distance riding the only problem that bike has is it's a small tank I think it's 6 gallons if I remember and I used to go from my house in San Pedro California to Palm Springs and only have about oh less than about a cup of gas left in my tank but I love that bike when I used to get on the freeway I always look down and I'm at 110 miles an hour so I'd always have to back back the bike down a bit but that's a nice clean one the only thing you're missing is the rubber piece that goes over the windscreen it's missing that if you're lucky if you can find it the Corbin seat they make for that bike is a great add on if you're only going to ride one person your ass will thank you

Re: Engine servicing, you can use Honda (Car) filters, exact same dimensions but a deeper canister, hence more filter paper inside, also swap out the OEM oil sump drain plug for a quality Titanium one with a magnet pressed in it, you'll be surprised how much wear swarf it collects come next oil drop, or get a couple or rare earth magnets & stick em on oil filter, this will achieve same results, don't forget to remove em from old filter at service time... 5th Gen motors are pretty bullet proof, I always use Synthetic 4T bike specific Motul or Castrol Power 1 racing oil in mine.... also oil chain with extra thick chainsaw chain oil, lubes better than any rattle can chain lube, then adjust chain tension after oil has soaked in a while to release any stiff links.

Thanks for the great review. I’m an older (65 YO) rider who bought a 2022 model earlier this year and have done about 7K miles on the bike. You may want more power. It’s fine if you do. But you’ll never need more power for the real world. If you’re an experienced rider and can’t have fun on this bike i recommend you seek medical attention immediately. YMMV.

This bike does have great torque and gearing for it. However....Suzuki's gearing dept dropped the ball on their biggest seller ever. The DRZ. I just sold my DRZE {that happened to be Travis Pastrana's} cuz I hated the gearing so bad. Looking at a '90 DR350S and after test riding it Im impressed. Much better overall dual sport IMO than the DRZ
