if you are beading with 15/0 or 11/0 beads you need to use a beading needle. They are long and very thin. You can get beading needles at Michaels in Canada and USA. Any place that sells beads most likely has the needles too. Ask them or search online for them. Potomac Bead has them and you can order them online and have them shipped to you if you live somewhere different. I checked and they were a size 10 beading needle.

Mani: I have a couple of questions, but first I wanted to tell you about something lol. I, too, have eyesight issues. I have a disease I was born with called Neurofibromatosis or NF2. It affects nerves, eyes and hearing mostly. Anyway, I was in Temu looking for beads and cabochons, etc. and I saw a pair of "glasses". They are really a jewelers loop, but are shaped like eye glasses. I'm supposed to get them in the mail today. I've had laser surgery, but I think my eyesight has gone bad again due to the NF. I have no clue if they will work, but I'm gonna try. I gotta try something. I'm too stubborn to stop beading. Now that I've started, I really love it. Ok, now after forever, lol--the questions. I used to make steampunk jewelry, etc. I have cabachons from that time. How do you incorporate a cabachon that has no holes in it? I realize you could use glue, etc.; however, I don't know if glue would ruin the faux suede I would use? I'm an idea person. I'm also part Cherokee and live an hour's distance from the Res in North Carolina mountains. Ok, that was the glue question. Another, if I use a piece of faux suede as a base to my cuff bracelet I think it is called. I want to place my design on it. I want to fold over the suede and use either a tiny zipper or some fastner so I can have it as a "hidey place" for money, a card, whatever. If I do this, should I line it? So the back threads don't get caught up in the money, card, whatever? 3rd question. When you put together your design and it is on the felt stuff, and you want to place that on a piece of leather, do you take scissors and cut the felt around the design before attaching it to the leather? I have taken enough of your time. I'll leave you alone for a bit. Thanx for any words of wisdom you may have. --Carolyn

Good luck with the glasses. I hope they work. Faux swede. I used it all the time. With a bracelet if you get it wet the swede will stretch. Not as much as leather. lol. Use it all you like. just let the people know who are getting it that it stretches when wet. The thread question. if you were beading correctly you should not have threads that the money could get caught on. The most you should be traveling on the back is a couple of beads. Cabs are easy. I have a video on how to attach cabs . You can also make a bead cadge for them and before closing the cadge add them and close and tighten so they stay in place. Think beads for the back (faux Swade is good too) and then bead in the shape of the cab making smaller and smaller rings or you can create like a lace around the sides. just make sure you put the cab in prior to the bead work getting to small. The felt back should be cut as small as possible before attaching it to another piece. you may need to add a bead row around it to cover the felt and uses a marker to change the color to match your project. You can also make the felt just a bit bigger around the work and make it part of the design. Sew it onto the back close to where the beaded area is so the felt sticks out some. This works best if you are using colored felt to match what you are beading or the background item it is going on. my biggest advice to you is to have fun. The threads can be cut and beads salvaged etc. The lost of some felt, thread or a backing will not be a ton. It is a forgiving craft. Megwitch.

@ManieMartinez Thank you so much. Are you Witch or Wiccan? I'm not Wiccan, but I do respect their beliefs as I do all. I'm a grey witch and have been for 30 years. I designed and made jewelry not only steampunk but for witches as well. I've gone thru and pulled out my box of cabachons. Have a look.

I really like this stitch. I can't get over how easy it is to learn from you, Mani. I commented on another video and learned that due to your failing eyesight, you are no longer making videos. I am so sorry for you and your eyesight. I can relate. My eyesight is getting bad as well, but I will go as long as I can. I'm getting a tad bit old ;) and I also have a disease that is taking it as well. I'm stubborn tho. I'm watching this video late in the evening and so I can't start practice until tomorrow. You mentioned there are many peyote stitches. If I get good at this one, I hope the rest are just as easy. Anyway, I'll move on now. Thank you again for all your past hard work and for leaving the videos up. I don't know what it is about your teaching style, but I've tried to find someone as good as you and I have watched hundreds of videos. I found one out of all of them who is sort of close. Take care. --Carol

Hi Mani. Thank you so much for making these videos. Do you have a favorite size for the flat nose pliers? The width of my pliers for the whole length of the tool is 1/2 inch/5 mm. Is that what you are using for this earring? It would be tiny and delicate like you said. Thanks!

I have finally found a teacher I can relate to. I've watched a lot of videos trying to learn and they're good, but they're not right for me. You are a great teacher. Thank you so much. I can't wait to get started. And what you were saying about the stiff felt, I had no idea what to use so I'm glad you explained that. Common sense told me the cloth needed to be tight so I was going to put it in an embroidery hoop. I am a new subscriber .

I absolutely love your work... you're soooo funny; "thats a wrapp" 😂😂😂. You stated about making the cab into a bracelet... perhaps you could do a tutorial on that by creating two loops or bails on each end of the cab and then add the beaded wire to the both ends to complete the bracelet.

I am sorry but this is one of the worse videos I have watched for fringed earrings. You camera is always out of focus, you do way to much talking and the way you describe things is extremely confusing. I tried this when I was first starting out and gave up. Now that I know what I am doing I can see things you are doing wrong and which definately cause confusion. If you know how to bead correctly there is no need to reinforse your bead rows so many times.

What size Nymo thread? I have been trying to learn brickstitch but I think I’m using the wrong thread. My needle keeps getting caught on it
@ManieMartinez
@ManieMartinez 6 ай бұрын
if your needle keep getting caught it could be for several reasons. thread size. You should be able to pass the thread and needle through the bead a minimum of three times for brick stitch. So the tread size depends on the bead hole size. Different types of beads need different thread sizes. Your needle could be the other issue. if you are using a needle meant for sewing rather than beading, or you need to adjust bead and thread size accordingly. You need to figure out what you have and try different things until you find the combination that works for you. It is a journey not a race, so enjoy the adventure and learning.
