I've got a honda cb500x but last year did a 3000 mile round trip from Shetland to Somerset and back on a zontes zt125g1, fully .aden with panniers, top box and camping gear. 20 litre tank gave me over 300 miles to the tank. Comfortable and managed all the passes and mountains. Cairngorm, Applecross Pass, Cumbria, Peak District, Wales, Yorkshire moors plus loads more. Epic. I'm also over 60 and disabled. If I still had that bike I think I'd prefer it to the honda but would love a royal Enfield or similar. Black is the best colour for a bike !
@TyresNTorque4 күн бұрын
That sounds great! 😊 I have heard nothing but good things about the CB500X. I did look at one before the Transalp, but the Transalp suited me a little more as it is a bigger bike. Which Royal Enfield would you go for? They do some great looking bikes. The black does look brilliant, but I do like them all. 😊

@TyresNTorque It's a 2018 cb500x but is getting hammered by the gale force winds and sea spray parked where I live. Need a completely blacked bike with zero chrome. Shotgun 650 or Scram 411 are current favourites. The guerilla looks nice, but the fuel tank is too small to be useful. I've yet to go south to do any test rides. Also need used as cheaper! Need a bike that thinks it's a land-rover

It’s good that, under all the dust it’s in good condition. AFAIK the VX was not a huge seller in the U.K., so parts might be a problem. The things that’ll catch you out are rubber components which harden/perish over time and can be almost impossible to track down. Find a VX forum online if there is one.
@TyresNTorque8 күн бұрын
I’m pleased with what it is like after a good clean 🧽 😊 I have found a few websites which sell everything for the VX but as you say, some bits are not cheap. I’m not sure how much I will have to rebuild / swap out yet as I’m not doing a full strip and rebuild. But most likely I will need more parts. So far I have ordered an oil filter and oil, just to get things kicked off. But I want to get the bike actually moving first 😂

Excellent review! I strongly recommend using multiple layers of security. I currently own a Transalp 750 and previously had a KTM 390 Duke, which, unfortunately, was stolen from a hotel about an hour outside of London. Since then, I've invested in a LITELOK X3 and several other security devices to better protect my bike

Hello 😊 Thank you very much for the feedback. I really appreciate it. I agree, the more layers you can use the better! I owned one like that! Nice engine, needs some tuning on the fork though.
@TyresNTorque9 күн бұрын
Hello 😊 It seems to be a healthy motor but I guess I will find out for sure when the clutch is sorted (if that is the issue). I presume the fork is too soft?
@ozcanciftci50509 күн бұрын
İf we decrease the preload ,does it mean it gets softer?..if so does it work the feet to touch the ground a bit better?
@TyresNTorque9 күн бұрын
Hello 👋 Yes decreasing preload does make the suspension slightly softer and I will let the bike sit slightly lower, but it also makes the bike easier to bottom out. It is worth noting that making your rear suspension too soft without adjusting the fork to match, can change the fork angle and can change the bikes handling characteristics. However softer suspension makes the bike less stable and it will squat more under acceleration and lean forwards more under braking. If you are wanting to lower the bike I would start with a lower seat 😊
@ozcanciftci50509 күн бұрын
@@TyresNTorque thank you very much for the answer...yesterday i tried a brand new transalp..i m ridi g chopper for a couple of years..seat heights are completely different and my feet hardly touch the ground and i did nt feel safe as i do with my chopper..i thought maybe it may lower the seat height if i soften the rear suspension..yes there is an original lower seat from honda but they just make the sponge or whatsoever inside the seat a bit thinner which will in return cause a bit discomfort..
@ozcanciftci50509 күн бұрын
My only concern is about riding in heavy traffic ,start ,stop ones...
@TyresNTorque9 күн бұрын
I’m not sure how comfortable the lower seats are in comparison to the standard ones but I too would say they are probably not as comfortable due to having less padding. It may be worth asking at Honda if there are other options to lower the bike, such as a different suspension linkage? It might also be worth booking in a test ride at Honda and asking them to reduce the preload to the minimum and you can try it out?

I tend to appreciate the stock karoo street tires on and off road. Ive started looking for replacements since i have a little over 2000 miles and the rear is probably about half way worn.
@TyresNTorque9 күн бұрын
Hello 😊 Thank you very much for your comment. I presume you ride aggressively? 2000 miles doesn’t seem like much to be half worn 🤔 I do think they are a very good set of tyres. I would have certainly had another set. However I have just fitted a set of Continental TKC70s and they are absolutely brilliant so far. I am hoping to do a review on them when I have covered a couple of thousand miles 😊 Hopefully that will be sooner rather than later 😊 Have you got any tyres in mind for when you need new ones?
@Sventy119 күн бұрын
@TyresNTorque I don't ride real aggressively, but I weigh about 240 pounds, so rear tires aren't my friend for longevity. That also might be why they seem to do well for me, even in looser materials in the roads. My brother complained about traction one day, and he probably only weighs about 160. I was looking at the battleax tires and some other more aggressive tires, but they're very expensive, and I know they're not going to last long. So I can't decide, really. I am considering selling the TA and maybe moving into a T7 or ATAS, so I might not even have to worry about it 😆
