Man, that is some nice work. I just restified a church pew bench my uncle created for our family dinner table about 50 years ago. The fun part was reattaching and aligning his hinged seats that he created for storage under the bench.

Nice work mate, what do you use for finish?
@kevinandersondesigns
@kevinandersondesigns 3 жыл бұрын
So for frames I use Wiping Varnish from Sutherland Welles, and for my furniture I do two coats of hard sealer then spray two coats of U500 Floor finish from Sutherland Welles. They make the best wood finish in the game. A million times better than all of those 1 step hard wax oil finishes out there.

I like the profile you put on the frame. I might need to give that a try. 🤔. Curious to know if there’s anything wrong with not putting a finish on for a picture frame? My wife really likes the look of the unfinished walnut. Seems like for a frame that’s not being handled it might be ok without finish?

Hello, My daughter has asked me to make a corner bench for her kitchen using an old church pew. While this project is not a corner seat, I’ve learned some neat things from your video. Great job. By the way, I also like your background music. Who is the artist?

Amazing job! Why did you leave out corners while routing the top edge? Does it have something to do with wood chipping away? Did you finish those bits by hand? Thank you!
@kevinandersondesigns
@kevinandersondesigns 4 жыл бұрын
Thankyou ! So I left the corners out bc I had already shaped most of the corners by hand to compensate for how the legs splay in both directions. But I didn’t have a perfect reference face for the bearing guide to run against. I finished up all the edges with a rasp to get everything dialed in

You’re the man! Awesome video. Why did you card scrape the finish then go to the rotex? Seems like scraper was unnecessary... but I’ve never used one. Would the finish have clogged too much sand paper?
@kevinandersondesigns
@kevinandersondesigns 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Kyle! So you basically nailed it why I used the card scraper. The original finish was layers and layers of Wax, and then someone covered the whole thing in Arm N Seal. So I had this big waxy mess. I used mineral spirits to soften it up a little, and then found scraping off most of the wax to be the most efficient way. The rotex worked great after that ! I did tru to start sanding right off the bat, and even with 60 grit it clogged immediately. Thanks for watching ! and if you ever come up with a better way to strip wax pleaseeeeee let me know lol
@kevinandersondesigns
@kevinandersondesigns 4 жыл бұрын
Hey sorry man just saw this, Someone had put a bunch of arm N seal on it over the already wax finish. I tried stripping the wax with a bunch of different chemicals first, and even tried melting off with a heat gun, but nothing ended up working better than a card scraper. And yes you're right, the wax just immediately clogs up the sand paper! so unfortunately the card scraper it was !
