Double up every 4’ then your decking of choice always lands on a full 1 1/2”, it takes care of the rim joist and the deck at the same time . You don’t want your decking to break on A single joist like you spoke of on the rim . Looks clean .

Suggestion. Step cut two 2x10s to attach the treads to and laminate a full dimension 2x10 on the outside each. The way it is now [even doubled up] the cuts look to be too deep [less than a 2x4]. You may have to add post half way up the run for extra support, If it is bouncy or deflects.
@promesconstructionl.l.c.8889Күн бұрын
Were using 2x12s. The stringers Look to deep because we are adding a 2x8 on the riser. we need this to support the 1/2" pvc

Sort of agree with you. It may be overkill but I typically would double the outside rim joist and stagger the joints. Also once the deck boards are on , it will be almost impossible to separate the rim joist anyway.

I’ve found it’s quicker to use pocket screws and glue. And you only need a battery drill and a pocket hole kit instead of a biscuit jointer with a cord so it’s less tools to break out for me. Pocket screws are cheap, I buy them in a 2500 ct box the blue outdoor rated ones. If you’re near salt water you have to use stainless then they aren’t so cheap. I like that instead of having to biscuit two pieces, you just have to drill the pocket holes in one. Either way I wouldn’t call this method wrong and I commend you for doing something to get a good looking end result that will last a long time. I use 2p10 glue but no activator is needed.

15-20 years ago, the industry transition treatment formulas for Southern Pine and there were lots of failures. Based on the presence of hand nails in this deck, it’s a minimum of 25-if not 35-years old. - Might tape have helped (or back then, tarpaper)? Maybe. I think time went by.
