You got the measurements wrong, notice when the can is vertical on the ground and the part that the tape touches, when you flip it around, you’d then only measure to the BOTTOM of the can on the table, not the top, because that’s not the measurement you started with. Look where the tape measure reads at the bottom of the can and you’ll see it is the same 28 and 1/2”.

Very easy, you are changing the distance of the cans by inverting them, making them farther away with the second setup. Assuming 7cm of height for the can upright and 2 cm on its side, and assuming a height for the table of 10 cm, you go from 7 to 12= 5cm, second setup would be from 2-17=15 cm. 😮

When to can is standing on the floor. The start point of the measure tape is higher, and since the top can is laying down it’s closer to the floor. So shorter distance. And when it’s the other way, the can laying on the floor. Start point is lower, and the standing can on the table is higher on top of the table. Lol crazy 🤯🤯🤯.

You're measuring the whole length of the can on the second measurement

The starting point on the bottom changes the length no matter what the top point does.

The height of a can is more than the thickness of from side to side by a couple of inches hence 39 inve 28

The reason for the 4 inch difference is because the can on the ground you are going down with being that from the can to the ground went from 4 inches to 2 inches (give or take) from the ground. The can on the plywood is going from 2 inches from the plywood to the top of it being 4 inches standing the can upright (give or take). If you take the 2 inches from the ground can (going downward) and the 2 inches from the can on the plywood (going upward) will make the 4 inch difference. Make sense? Nice betting trick though! 😄
