Been a while, but it does not seem that there is very much threads past the locking nut. Could be that the seal was incorrect or not installed completely. Causing the hub to feel seated on the tube when it wasn't.

Unfortunately 9 out of 20 wheel seals and bearings fail due to improper installation but for all the master techs myself included everyone is quick to run and whine about the new guy or something of that nature because in the mechanics world the Cover your own ass disease is a real problem I have been working on trucks now for 16 years and when everyone is bad mouthing someone else I actually figured it out most the time it was a younger or newer tech doing the work while the more experienced guys are twiddling there thumbs we all have done our time but something to remember is that if your a lead tech then you need to act like one there is a lot of would have been mechanics that ran into to many shit leaders who didn't teach and do their jobs and what's even worse is these younger techs are working in fast paced work environments when they are not ready to and all you guys saying how good of a mechanic you are now 😀 just remember you messed up to and someone else paid for your lesson

@heavydutytowingrecoveryinc27962 жыл бұрын
No the shabby work was not done originally by the mechanic in video...he actually repaired what the truck stop mechanic messed up.... the truck was towed into the shop in the video to have the work redone because it was repaired at a truck stop previously and the driver only made it 200 miles before he had problems

@@thebad300 spoken like someone that used to work at Brighton. That is what they did on my J340 rear ends, instead of what the manufacturer called for, which is for the adjuster nut to be run down to 125, back a half turn, run to 50 then back a quarter turn. locking jam nut to high torque. They had to pay axle surgeons to fix their mistake. I didn't make it 35 miles from their shop. I checked the other 3 hubs that luckily didnt gall and all were done wrong. Different manufacturers have different specs for different setups. Thread pitch and size of the adjuster nuts and the method of locking the nut makes all the difference.

Higher and higher labor rates lead to rushed work , tech's worrying about the clock instead of focusing on the job in front of them. As the old saying goes , haste makes waste , so does inexperience . Fortunately those duals didn't come off and kill someone , and yes if you want oil to your wheel bearings the axle oil needs to be topped off .

@dj67693 жыл бұрын
Exactly that spindle is ruined, the bearing seat is galled I was watching him remove the jam nut by hand!!? That nut should have been torqued to 250 ft lbs after the hub end play set to 0.001” to 0.005” highly likely the cause of failure the end play not correct. All that destroyed metal now is in the differential and most likely contaminated the other side soon to fail. I’ve done a few of these and it’s a mess.

Common misconception is the inner nut coming off by hand is a bad thing, depending on the lock nut system after setting preload the inner nut is torqued to 100ft lb and backed out 1/4 turn which in many cases is just hand tight.
@class8garage3083 жыл бұрын
Inner nut 200ftlb while rotating hub then back off one full turn then re torque to 50ft lbs final spec on inner nut rule of thumb
