GORGEOUS! I LOVE how that handle came out! I rehafted a Vaughn hatchet that came out looking similar to that! Keep up the good work!

Enjoyed the video. I'm looking at working on an ax of mine, as well as a shovel, and hoe. One thing though, paracord disolves when exposed to the elements. And I always think of that scene in Woody Allens movie "Take the money and run" where he's on the chain gang, and the head falls off his sledge hammer.

Watch how much heat you put to the steel if ut gets too hot you will either remove or alter the temper wich can result in a fragile edge or microscopic crachs that could make tge axe head completely fail in time one rule of thumb i use is as long as you can touch it for 5 seconds its not to hot if you cant pur a little water on it
@Running-with-skizers6 ай бұрын
Good job man not taking all the patina out of it was the right move axes have their oun personalities and if you take everything out of it its just another axe

The best bang for yer tent buck is the green nylon Naturehike Opalus 2. Super lightweight, massive vestibule for storage and cooking, generously sized inner, and very good build quality. Only downside is that it's something like 13' long. I've been using one for about 3 years now and I love it. I also have the very similar Big Agnes Blacktail Hotel 2 and while I like the additional head height, I still prefer the Opalus overall for it's much lighter weight and faster pitch time. My daughter also has the Cloud Up 1 tent. She uses it a lot and she loves it. We have a couple of their chairs, too, both YL08 "Moon Chairs" and they're extremely good quality. You have to be careful with Naturehike, though, because if you ever have to make a warranty claim they like to ignore you, which I discovered after buying another of their tents (Vik1) that had a tear in the vestibule door. So if you're thinking of buying their gear, buy it off Amazon so you'll have recourse if this happens to you and make sure you go over it with a fine toothed comb as soon as you get it so nothing bad pops up on you after the 30 day return period.

I also have a hot tent from onetigris as my one and only tent and its the best.you can nearly deploy it everywere and Despite its weight it outmatches every tent that i saw and testet bevor.its the best choice❤

um just wondering what did you do with your food over night ? What about Bears ?
@Theoutdoorlayman8 ай бұрын
Usually our food goes into a dry sack and then, ideally hung from a tree but most of the time it’s just the dry sack. Haven’t had any visitors so far! But I recommend hanging your food away from your tents to be safe.

I mean, how did the wind lift your tent with all the heavy items inside and the door was zipped?
@Theoutdoorlayman9 ай бұрын
Who knows, I mean there were some pretty good gusts but my tent looked pretty solid before I left for a hike. I guess wind must have gotten under and just carried it. Once I had the rocks on each corner it didn’t move a muscle.

It's time to hang a new handle on that. I do appreciate your work and attention to detail, but from the start, that handle isn't safe. One good hard whack on a stubborn log could mean a lot of pain in your future. For your sake, get a new handle. Otherwise, I really do like the attention you gave the axe
@Theoutdoorlayman8 ай бұрын
Thanks man, I do plan on putting a new handle on it! I have a list of future videos/projects to do and that’s definitely one of them.

You should have replaced the handle. It will break with tough use. The paracord won’t stop that.
