I have 50 year old memories of doing that in Chile. You had no controle when the wave hit you so the trick was to pick a starting point that would hopefully take you away from the rocks. Dangerous magic scarry fun. Like a dream it was so long ago .

This is Sandy Beach, East O'ahu. Do not go in, if you are a visitor. People break their necks, and backs, when Sandy is less than 1/3 this size. The shore break picks you up, and SLAMS!!! you down into the bare sand, and you have no choice. This is for expert locals who have experienced their way up to this size waves.

there's shorebreak and then there's this...lip of the wave is landing within a couple feet of bare sand. Not a puny wave either.

Throughout this video I realized how painful it was for people to come crashing down in the barrel of big waves. When I was 11 I was at the beach in NC and a medium sized wave came towards me and I didn’t know how to take cover so I tried ducking, but it wasn’t enough. I came crashing down in the barrel, and immediately my whole side was scraped up deeply and bled uncontrollably. Hurt so bad, the stinging was horrible. I was fine though, my sister walked me back to the beach house we were temporarily staying in.
