I'm still dealing with this issue all these years later... but it doesn't happen as often since I've learned to gently close the door. Regular shutting the drivers door seems to trigger the screen to go out. Also, you might want to try keeping your 12v battery (the one behind the back passengers side wheel well) charged up every couple weeks. I noticed when I have that battery topped off, the screen doesn't go out as often.

@@MikeJackVideo Weird problem to have. I hope I don't have to ear the dash apart to eventually send mine off and have it repaired. I looked up another video on how to do that and it doesn't seem too hard really to take the dash apart. My 12V battery is still pretty new and it's good.

I've found that keeping the 12v battery charged to near 100% really prevents the dash lights from going out... also, avoid door slams, as that too tends to make the screen 'disappear' :)

A capacitor on the screens circuit board eventually fails. It looses capacity and gets too low, causing the electronics to be out of balance. Replacing that capacitor fixes this issue.

Wonderful and helpful video! Thank you!! Could you please link the products you use? Mainly the tape and dispenser. Thanks!

The tape I use is from U-Line, the item number is S-444 on their website (uline.com) or simply search for S-444 tape on google. The tape dispenser is one of the cheapest on Amazon but works great... just be careful not to cut yourself as that tape cutting edge is sharp! www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00437DG5C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

actually, there are 2 dispensers in the video... I just noticed as I hadn't watched the video in a while. That smaller dispenser is a two in one, so there's a 2" wide side and a smaller side that dispenses standard small tape rolls. I bought that duo dispenser at Walmart years ago and haven't seen any for sale there recently. Possibly look on Amazon or eBay.

Usually costs about $1.25 worth of 'new' cardboard, with tape, paper and printer ink valued in. You can get away with using cardboard from boxes that are going to be recycled as well. Its at least a 5 minute job, maybe 10 minutes. I like to use multiple layers of cardboard, similar to what I did in this video - maybe another extra layer of cardboard or two, which takes a little more time but creates a very sturdy box.

I was having the same problem. Research led me to believe it's the capacitor. My workaround had been to disconnect the 12V battery in trunk; then reconnect it. This works but began to be more of a nuisance. I decided to wire a light -switch (common AC light switch 120V/15A found cheaply in hardware stores) with a short length of wire (common lamp-wire 14-gauge). Wired between grounding screw and ground wire to battery. This method allows easy access to disconnect/reconnect battery (i.e. reset electrical system). Capacitors acts to reduce ripple effect on the voltage. The main problem seems to be as the original capacitor(s) degrade over time, they may no longer reliably reduce the initial ripple (upon startup) to allow the computer to fully initialize; hence the multifunction display isn't brought online. While the light-switch was a fairly easy, quick, and cheap workaround, it seems to also have resolved the issue! Perhaps the addition of the switch and wiring induces a small measure of capacitance? In any case, I haven't had that issue again in months, if it recurs I can reset via the switch. Note: I folded the excess metal of switch and used electrical tape wrapped around it to form protective 'wings' so switch doesn't accidentally get switched OFF. Works great!

That’s probably the known brake accumulator issue. Costs around $2400 to fix at the dealer but totally worth it. Fixed it on my 2005 last year and 2012 Prius this year. Much cheaper than buying a new or used car. Toyota extended the warranty to the brake accumulator to 10 years. Unfortunately the warranty past when mine failed.

Got my blocks in this morning and I'm going to follow your design, Mike. I've got a real problem disposing of garden rubbish here; pruned brush and branches, mostly, that are no use in the wood stove. For safety I'll probably go four or five courses high because I'm surrounded by orchards and in the middle of the European drought. Thanks for your help, mate, and for the two-year progress report.
@MikeJackVideo9 ай бұрын
I recently bought a couple solid 2 inch thick blocks to make a decent top and replaced 2 of the blocks that cracked. The blocks at the bottom and second course are all still original. It seems the block at the top are those experiencing the highest heat leading to their cracking, I kinda figured would happen. The block design here also allows air in from the sides which makes for an efficient burn. I'm really happy with this. Overall, I've spent $43 or so in the past 3 years. I'd have gone through a couple metal barrels by now, which are hard to dispose of... Glad the video helped a bit!

Great idea, Mike! I am trying to figure out how to help my parents get logged into their streaming services more easily. Using the remote to pick all the letters/numbers for their email and password is way too confusing for them. Any ideas? I was thinking I could get them a bluetooth keyboard for their TV's?
@petersachs7642 ай бұрын
I'd recommend an older or simpler Roku TV in the early stages as they have less buttons to press and just have them do streaming from free apps like "Classic TV" and Nolstagic Movies. Unfortunately, as the disease progresses, the complexity of pretty much any modern TV will be a challenge, so don't go crazy money wise. More important might be proper nutrition and interaction with others. The most important is them getting enough sleep!
